Teacher High School prepares lesson plans and instructs students in an assigned secondary school. Develops and implements grade appropriate course work, activities, and assessments to meet the academic needs of children in a grade 6-12 classroom setting. Being a Teacher High School evaluates and monitors student's performance. Assesses and documents students' progress. Additionally, Teacher High School participates in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans for specific students. Resolves classroom issues and conflicts. May participate in implementing special programs for students. May supervise teaching assistants. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require state-specific teaching license. Typically requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Typically reports to a principal. The Teacher High School occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     JOB DESCRIPTION

    TITLE:

    High School Teacher

    RESPONSIBLE TO:

    High School Principal

    SUMMARY:

    Instruct students in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth in the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Employed per teacher contract.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

    1. Teaches district-approved curriculum.

    2. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.

    3. Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.

    4. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.

    5. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.

    6. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals; and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.

    7. Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students.

    8. Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.

    9. Available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.

    10. Supervises students during the period of time before the start of classes each day and between class periods.

    11. Supervises students throughout the day (before school, lunch, end of day).

    12. Prepares for assigned classes.

    13. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

    14. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

    15. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct; and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

    16. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.

    17. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.

    EVALUATION:

    Evaluation will be conducted in accordance with applicable laws and provisions established through the collective bargaining process.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT:

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

    Valid Illinois Teaching Certificate with appropriate required endorsement in area of study or pursuing appropriate endorsement.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    REASONING ABILITY:

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in everyday situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; skill in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

    Pay: $36,000.00 - $79,146.00 per year
