POSITION TITLE:         High School Math Teacher

CLASSIFICATION:       Certificated Position; FSLA Exempt

                                    Union Representation available by the Wahluke Education Association

REPORTS TO:               Principal and/or other Supervisor

Job Summary:  Teach math subjects to high school-aged students. May serve students that qualify for special education services.  May teach integrated math up to and including calculus. Other math courses may be assigned. Participate in and contribute to the whole school environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:        Must hold or be able to obtain proper Washington teaching certificate with a Math endorsement.  Special Education endorsement or special education coursework in order to secure a limited certificate or experience helpful. Candidates with an ELL endorsement and / or those who are bilingual / bicultural may receive preferential consideration. Technology proficient or ability to gain proficiency to integrate technology into the instructional delivery as well a student learning.  Ability to teach a broad range of math courses preferred. Understanding/Knowledge of 5D  CEL Instructional Frameworks and ability to incorporate dimensions in daily teaching practices. Ability to work as a participating and collaborative team member.  Knowledge of/training in Safe & Civil Schools, PBIS, AVID, and Character Strong. As per the Governor's mandate beginning October 18, 2021, all employees must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or be approved by the school district for a medical or religious exemption.    

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Participate in curriculum review and design with an understanding of the Common Core State Standards

2. Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.

3. Diagnose and evaluates student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.

4. Collaborate with Special Education teacher/supervisor to assist in development of student educational plans and deliver appropriate instruction as per plan.

5. Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly, using both formative and summative processes.

6. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.

7. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.

8. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.

9. Refer students for alternative services as provided by the District (ELL, Reading, Special Education, CTE / STEM and others.

10. Effectively implement district initiatives.

11. Use the PLC process to effectively communicate and collaborate with professionals at the department, building, and district levels.

12. Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers.

11. Strive to achieve the objectives and expectations of the Teacher Performance Evaluation Plan.
12. Collaborate with Intervention Specialists and share pertinent information with building administration and intervention teams.
13. Interacts positively with students, professional associates, parents and patrons of the school district
14. Complete other related duties as assigned.

17. Collect student data using a variety of data collection forms for purposes of determining appropriate instruction.
18. Ability and willingness to attend student field trips.
19. Attends meetings and training sessions related content areas as may be assigned
20. Maintains confidentiality and non-judgmental views of children and families served.
21. Performs any other duties and responsibilities as directed.
