English as a Second Language Teacher

There is an immediate opening available for a teacher in the English as a Second Language program at the Utica Community Schools Community Education Center. The Adult Education ESL program serves adult students 18 years of age or older.

Qualifications

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an appropriate elementary, middle, or secondary-level endorsement in English/language arts, ESL, or bilingual education.
• Demonstrated interest/experience in working with adult students.
• Technology proficient.
• Ability to foster an effective learning environment for multiple age and skill levels.
• Ability to implement multiple teaching methods, styles, and materials.
• To work cooperatively with other teaching and support staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide high quality instruction that supports and aligns to the State of Michigan and the district's educational vision and mission.
• Responsible for teaching English as a Second Language courses using instructional methods geared toward the adult learner in a classroom setting.
• Facilitate an environment that fosters the learning of all students.
• Utilize educational technology to support student’s instruction and learning.
• Develop and deliver daily lesson plans utilizing a broad range of appropriate differentiated techniques and strategies to ensure learners meet or exceed learning targets.
• Analysis of real-time data pertaining to student learning.
• Responsible for tracking student progress and communicating to students and administration.
• Establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with students, peers, and community.
• Follow policies and procedures outlined by the Supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned.

Morning and evening shifts available

Schedule: Monday – Thursday

9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., plus prep time

6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., plus prep time
