Supplemental Instructional Assistant
Priority application deadline November 20, 2023. Position will remain open until filled. Anticipated start date January 8, 2024.
Essential Duties:
- This is a part time, 10 month position
- Provide supplemental instruction to students.
- Assist in development of instructional activities and assessment.
- Assist and advise students at the direction of an assigned faculty member in specific academic subject areas.
- Assist and instruct students in the proper use of computers and other tools appropriate for use in a classroom or learning lab.
- Meet with professor at the beginning of each semester to set goals and/or objectives.
- Attend all classes, taking notes and completing required reading or homework assignments.
- Utilize planning sheets in SI discussions.
- Use a variety of techniques to promote active learning.
- Submit lesson plans and copies of handouts to supervisor weekly.
- Participate in required pre-service training, as well as, training throughout the semester.
- Participate in peer observations of SI leaders. Meet with the supervisor to process the observations/evaluations and use the feedback to implement changes during the semester.
- Actively participate in weekly meetings.
- Attend all scheduled activities.
- Distribute and collect surveys and evaluations to students as needed.
- Work with departments to arrange appropriate rooms for SI discussions.
- Collect and report students’ attendance for every session. Turn in weekly.
- Provide supervisor with current schedule of SI sessions.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate Degree or equivalent, and
- Six (6) months of full time related experience working with students in an educational setting as a tutor, instructional aide or in an instructional area; or
- One (1) year or more of part-time experience working with students in an educational setting as a tutor, instructional aide or in an instructional area.
- Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students; and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in higher education or a public service environment.
- Bilingual: Spanish/English.

Keep accurate and detailed records.
Handle teaching materials responsibly and follow testing directions.
Ability to relate with patience, poise and tact to students and staff;
Ability to work effectively with students and staff and adapt to various teaching and learning styles.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Primarily indoors in a classroom or learning lab setting.
May be assigned to work days or evenings to support the instructional program.
Will be required to follow proper safety precautions and follow college safety procedures.
May have exposure to equipment, noise, chemicals related to the lab or learning environment as assigned.
Physical Requirements
1. Vision sufficient to read documents and computer terminal displays.
2. Speech and hearing to communicate in person or by telephone.
3. Manual dexterity sufficient to use a variety of office equipment, computer keyboards and to handle paper.
4. Sit for long periods of time.
5. Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds such as paper and reports.
6. Ability to bend and reach to retrieve and file supplies, equipment and documents.

Compensation and Benefits:
This is a part-time, 28 hour per week, 10 month per year position. The salary range for this position is grade 20 on the 2023-24 Classified Salary Schedule, with a range of $25.24-$29.22 per hour. This position is not eligible for participation in District benefits.
