    GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
    Under administrative leadership, it is the responsibility of the Associate Degree Nursing Clinical Teaching Assistant to teach clinical courses, under the supervision of Master's Prepared Associate Degree Nursing faculty serving as instructor(s) of record [Title 16 (§1425(d)3.3.4)], ADN faculty, as assigned and to perform those tasks that support advancement of the vision, mission, and values of the community college district.

    All Temporary, Part-time Clinical Teaching Assistants are compensated in accordance with the terms of the collective bargaining agreement between Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District and Shasta College Faculty Association/CTA/NEA.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
    Responsibilities designated below are primary to the Clinical Teaching Assistant role. Some of the listed professional responsibilities are examples of activities, which are part of the unique role of each Clinical Teaching Assistant and are reflective of their individual expertise and interests. Faculty who hold the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) approved Clinical Teaching Assistant classification are required to defer to the Master's Prepared Instructor(s) of Record the overall responsibility for the design of the assigned clinical course, including the determination of instructional outcomes and students' ultimate course grade(s).

    Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability
    Clinical Classroom Responsibilities in Collaboration with Instructor(s) of Record:
    • Meet classes or assigned clinical hours on days and times according to approved schedule.
    • Provide instruction for each clinical period consistent with the official course outline of record.
    • Review written syllabus, course objectives, lab/clinical assignments, grading criteria, and classroom policies prior to first day of the assigned class.
    • Demonstrate respect for student rights as specified in District policy and applicable laws.
    • Refer students to the instructor(s) of record for remediation and related student services, when appropriate.
    Evaluation of Students:
    • Periodically, evaluate student progress toward meeting course objectives; advise the students about methods of evaluation and the results of the evaluation.
    • Grade student assignments and complete student evaluations in coordination with the instructor(s) of record within established timelines; return assignments and examination results in a timely fashion.
    • Assign grades to students and submit to supervising faculty for confirmation and review in the manner provided by District policy and administrative procedure and prescribed by the Education Code and Title 5 and Title 16 regulations of the State of California (§1425(d)3.3.4).
    • Submit required administrative paperwork, including grade report forms, in a timely and accurate manner to instructor(s) of record per Title 16 (§1425(d)3.3.4).
    Curriculum:
    • Participate in the development and review of curriculum, in coordination with the Master's Prepared ADN.faculty.
    Student Advising:
    • Advise students enrolled in the instructor's classes on such matters as:
      • Course content, learning outcomes, and classroom policies;
      • Evaluation and grade requirements;
      • Learning skills;
      • Collateral or enrichment reading or experience opportunities for further understanding of the course or subject matter;
      • Career alternatives/opportunities related to the subject field.
    Professional Development:
    • Participate in professional development activities, including scheduled flex activities, student learning outcomes process, and governance committees.
    • Participate in an orientation program, including, but not limited to, the program's curriculum, policies and procedures, strategies for teaching, and student supervision and evaluation [Title 16 (§1425.1(b)].
    • Attend/participate in professional conferences, seminars or meetings, as needed, in order to maintain clinical competence [Title 16 (§1420 (d)].
    • Participate in professional development to remain current in discipline.
    Additional Responsibilities:
    • All faculty are required to attend and participate in shared governance through committee work of the nursing program [Title 16 (§1425(d)3.3.4)].
    • Maintain clinical competency as defined by the Board of Registered Nursing.
    • Abide by departmental regulations concerning the proper use, care and security of equipment and District property.
    • As part-time faculty, Clinical Teaching Assistants are eligible and encouraged to participate in the process of shared governance through committee work of the division, college, district, or state level; participate in other significant non-classroom college, district, or community activities.
    • Participate in articulation activities and coordination of inter-divisional and intra-divisional learning activities (voluntary).
    • Attend advisory committee meetings when required by divisional programs [Title 5 (§55601)].
    • Report absences due to illness or for personal necessity and the intended date of return, if at all possible, prior to the class meeting, according to the ADN Faculty Handbook.
    • Provide recommendations for purchase of instructional supplies and equipment.
    • Attend/participate in "in house" conferences, seminars or meetings (voluntary).
    • Provide administrators, program director(s), and instructor(s) of record with sample instruction materials as may be deemed necessary, such as pre and post conference handouts, student evaluations, and clinical paperwork.
    • Maintain Board of Registered Nursing "Report of Faculty" form as directed by the ADN Program Director.
    • Fulfill all obligations as established in the current collective bargaining agreement.

    Experience/Education
    Education Required:
    • Associate degree with six years of professional experience OR the equivalent
    Experience Required:
    • Eligible for approval from the Board of Registered Nursing at the Clinical Teaching Assistant level.
    • Meet clinical competency requirements and approval to supervise students in the assigned clinical settings.
    • Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, as well as staff members and students with physical and/or learning disabilities.

    EQUIVALENCY:
    The state of California has established minimum qualifications for academic positions in California Community Colleges to promote professionalism, instructional integrity, and academic rigor. The primary minimum qualification for academic positions is an advanced degree in the relevant subject matter for the position. Applicants who do not meet the minimum education requirement(s) for a discipline may still be qualified for the position, if they can demonstrate they have acquired the knowledge, skills, and abilities conferred in the degree program through any combination of education and experience.
