    For 29 years, the International Festival of Arts & Ideas (“Arts & Ideas”) has inspired and delighted audiences with an annual program of over 200 performing arts and humanities events year-round, at least 85% of which are free. 

     

    Focused events in June range from world and nationally-renowned speakers sharing the stage with critical local voices for discussions on democracy, to jazz concerts, theatrical performances, dance; takeout mixology classes; bike and walking tours; and live, individual performances by local on-call artists on front lawns and sidewalks throughout the area. 

     

    Year-round programs include special town-hall events, a fellowship program for youth, planning and implementing mini-festivals in New Haven’s culturally-rich neighborhoods, participation in the NEA Big Read, and our annual Visionary Leadership Award program.

     

    JOB DESCRIPTION


    The Technical Director will work directly with the Production Manager coordinating the infrastructure and technical requirements and technical staff for the festival. The TD alongside the PM and APM will supervise the load in, load out, and running on green infrastructure.

     

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to

    • Oversee and deploy all scenic and rental elements to their predetermined place.   
    • Supervise IATSE crew installation of myriad elements as needed. 
    • Supervise/assist Operations crew as needed. 
    • Build any carpentry elements as needed. 
    • Set up shop space with tools/tables from our storage.   
    • Organize IFAI tools and hardware.  


                                                                                            

    SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

    • Prior experience working in theatrical production preferred
    • A strong understanding of carpentry, scenic construction, and staging systems. 
    • Ability to calmly manage multiple schedules and simultaneous requests
    • Works well with a team
    • Manages time efficiently
    • Good organizational skills
    • Use of Office Suite and associated Web Apps

    Reports to the Production Manager 

    Key Communication, Assistant Production Manager, Production Office Manager, Operations Manager

    Seasonal Employment

    Non-Exempt

    Pay Rate: starts at $30.00/hour

    Schedule: April 22nd-July 5th, 2024 (Starts at part-time and progresses to full-time)
