Director, Grants and Private Foundations

  • Under the general direction of the Vice President and Executive Director of the Foundation, the Director of Grants and Private Foundations provides grants development oversight and expertise for the resource development-related activities of the college. This position also supports the VP/ED in developing policies and procedures, strategic planning, project implementation and management, contracts oversight, partnership agreement development, database management oversight, and annual operations program review and assessment.
    As a key position of the Foundation team, the position also is responsible for meeting annual fundraising and development goals and working toward the success of the Foundation’s grants and private foundations program.
    Minimum Qualifications
    • Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution in Technical Writing, Public Administration, Project Management, Business Administration or closely related field. Or an equivalent mix of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets all competency requirements for this position.
    • Demonstrated experience in grant writing and grants management, including researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to public and private entities, post-award grant or contract administration.
    • Demonstrated ability to review business processes for risk management and compliance and communicate results to stakeholders.
    • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to maintain positive working relationships with others.
    • Proficiency as a facilitator to motivate, energize, persuade, and connect the right people, partnerships, and resources to accomplish goals.
    • Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with multiple interruptions, a demonstrated talent for organization.
    • Ability to work independently in team-focused manner across complex, multi-dimensional institutions and with partner organizations.
    • Ability to conduct financial analysis and reporting using spreadsheets and other tools.
    • Ability to use office software and administrative systems, including but not limited to: Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook; web applications and the Internet.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Degree in Management, Business Administration, Higher Education Administration, or closely related field from an accredited institution.
    • Designation of Certified Research Administrator (CRA), Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA) or Certified Grants Management Specialist (CGMS).
    • Experience with the Blackbaud Raisers Edge.
    • Experience in higher education or a government agency.
    Essential Duties
    • Writes institutional grants and provides technical assistance to staff in the development of grant proposals to ensure clarity and conformity with program objectives and compliance with policies and outcomes required by the funding agency/organization.
    • Develops, implements, and evaluates policies, procedures, and standards for the management of grants from public and private sources.
    • Researches and identifies available federal, state, local, and private grant funding sources and disseminates information to grant seekers.
    • Confers with grant seekers and institutional leaders on the development of grant strategies and objectives; provides resource information on requirements for obtaining grants and the process of applying for grants.
    • Provides technical assistance to administrators, faculty, and staff in the review of proposals to ensure that grant applications are complete and in compliance with programmatic and financial requirements.
    • Provides assistance in the preparation of grant performance reports submitted to grant agencies.
    • Monitors compliance with all federal, state and local laws, relevant contractual obligations, and accounting and reporting standards applicable to grants.
    • Establishes and maintains liaison with representatives of grant funding agencies.
    • Fully utilizes the capabilities of software programs in the production of management information and reports related to grants.
    • Develops, monitors, and maintains a grant tracking system to ensure timely preparation of grant applications and implementation of grant requirements.
    • Coordinates the preparation of financial, statistical, and operational reports related to grants.
    • Prepares informative materials related to grant development and management.
    • Conducts training sessions for administrators, faculty, and staff on grant development and administration.
    • Attends and participates in various on-site and off-site administrative and committee meetings, workshops, and conferences related to grant development and management.
    • Stays abreast of legislative changes affecting grant regulations, analyzes the effects, and makes sound recommendations.
    • Performs related duties as assigned.
