  • The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) is seeking an experienced graphic designer/illustrator for the Virginia Talent Accelerator Program.  The Virginia Talent Accelerator provides a comprehensive suite of services including talent recruitment, creative services, and video production, in addition to new-hire training in proprietary client technologies, leadership, collaboration skills, and quality systems. These services are provided free of charge to eligible client companies as an incentive for locating major job creation projects in Virginia.

    The ideal candidate is a conceptual and critical thinker who has experience developing marketing creative for talent recruiting as well as transforming instructional learning concepts into innovative visual solutions for new-hire training. The graphic design, illustration, iconography, infographics, advertising, and websites you develop will be used for talent recruiting and the training of new employees and will be fully customized to a client company’s unique processes, equipment, procedures, and brand standards.  The position will report directly to the Virginia Talent Accelerator’s Managing Director of Visualization Services. 

    Responsibilities:

    • Translate complex ideas and/or processes into easy-to-understand visual explanations through graphic design, illustration, iconography, and infographics
    • Conceptualize, storyboard, and create a variety of illustrations and content for course videos and learning modules
    • Actively collaborate with internal instructional designers, project managers, and the video production team as well as external production teams to create visual solutions that meet learning objectives
    • Develop effective talent recruitment marketing including fliers, ads, websites, outdoor advertising, etc. 
    • Create these visual solutions using the Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft tools, esp. InDesign, Illustrator, PhotoShop, After Effects, Word, and PowerPoint.
    • Manually measure, cut, fold, and produce tangible assets created with the before mentioned software – must have strong hand/craft skills
    • Help build and maintain a comprehensive and searchable creative asset library of graphic and assets

     Skills:

     Experience required:

    • 5 years of experience working in the Adobe Creative Suite, esp. InDesign, Illustrator, PhotoShop, Acrobat, and After Effects 
    • 5 years of experience and expertise working with/in PowerPoint
    • Ability to interpret and graphically illustrate varied content for a broad range of subjects
    • Strong knowledge of graphic design, typography, color, layout, and visual timing
    • Advanced understanding of both print production and electronic production
    • Demonstrated hand skills – must be able to measure, align, fold, cut, etc. with accuracy
    • Ability to collaborate within a team to foster an environment of innovation, creativity and trust
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Excellent organization and time management skills and the ability to work efficiently, independently, and on multiple projects concurrently
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and flexible to changing priorities
    • Strong conceptual and critical thinker

    The following experience would be a plus:

    • Web UX and UI design and HTML/CSS
    • Development and design of training and recruiting materials for external clients
    • Lighting and shooting studio and/or location photography
    • Experience with large format printing, mounting and laminating
