Utilizes a variety of graphic files, photo images, and sketches to create detailed technical illustrations. Being a Technical Illustrator produces 3-D, cutaway, or exploded views of objects. Familiar and proficient with graphic illustration and CAD software tools. Additionally, Technical Illustrator typically requires an associate degree in art, design, or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Technical Illustrator independently performs a wide range of complex duties under general guidance from supervisors. As a Technical Writer/Illustrator at Fairbanks Morse Defense, you will prepare technical manuals, maintenance standards, and service information letters to meet customer deliverable requirements. Your role involves translating technical information from engineering drawings into clear language understandable to customers of varying knowledge levels. In addition to written procedures, you will create clear illustrations and drawings using 2D and 3D illustration software. Draft text material for new technical documentation and prepare updates and revisions as necessary. Prepare written copy for technical manuals, meeting contract requirements. Contract Commitments: Work to meet contract commitments as scheduled, including validation activities. Illustration Development: Develop repair parts lists and illustrations using bills of material and engineering drawings. Collaboration: Interact with various internal groups to determine the scope and formatting necessary for technical documentation. Graphic Support: Prepare clear technical illustrations and graphic depictions to support written text. Quality Assurance: Prepare, organize, and deliver preliminary contract deliverable documentation; incorporate customer comments/corrections for final documentation. Qualifications We're Looking For: Associate degree: Or equivalent experience in a maintenance-related technical writing environment. Three years in a technical writing environment, preferably in heavy machinery manufacturing, military maintenance, power generation, or marine application. Strong understanding of mechanical components and systems. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Oracle, XML authoring/document development (ArborText, Notepad ), 2D and 3D illustration/modeling software (SolidWorks preferred). This position requires access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NOFORN). Proof of sole US Citizenship is required. Travel requirements are minimal. Ready to Make a Difference?
