Technical Librarian jobs in Kansas City, MO
Technical Librarian develops and maintains a collection of technical information and provides research and reference support to researchers, scientists, and engineers. Builds an extensive network of technical information resources and contacts from various sources like government agencies, universities, professional and industry associations to obtain the required information. Being a Technical Librarian communicates with researchers to develop and maintain a broad knowledge and understanding of the organization's relevant topics and effectively target technical publications as information sources. Creates abstracts, bibliographies, and metadata to classify the information. Additionally, Technical Librarian obtains translations of literature as needed. Supports and maintains the library's technology infrastructure and information retrieval tools. Typically requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The Technical Librarian work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a Technical Librarian typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Job Position Description
- This is a part-time hybrid role for a Librarian. The Librarian will be responsible for library collection management and development.
- Develop the collection of print and electronic information resources by selecting, de-selecting, developing, and cataloging, classifying library resources.
- Review and evaluate materials using book reviews and faculty recommendations for selecting print, electronic, audio-visual resources.
- Develop special collections: theology and music collection.
- This is a hybrid role with some work from home opportunity but the role is primarily located in Lexington, MO
Qualifications
- Library Science Degree (e.g. MLS/MLIS)
- Expertise in Library Science and Library Management
- Understanding of Library Information Systems and familiarity with available resources
- Relevant skills and qualifications that would be beneficial include experience with cataloging and supervising staff
