Creates abstracts, bibliographies, and metadata to classify the information. Additionally, Technical Librarian obtains translations of literature as needed. Supports and maintains the library's technology infrastructure and information retrieval tools. Typically requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. Essential Job Functions:
Performs administrative and professional library duties as well as providing direction and expertise in Children and Youth services. Supervises activities in Youth Department. Creates, implements, and presents youth programming, classes, and special events to meet the needs of the community. Plans, coordinates, and evaluates work of assigned library staff. Assists library patrons in the use of library services, facilities, and equipment. Provides prompt, courteous, and direct assistance to all patrons with basic information regarding use of library materials, equipment, and services. Takes responsibility for enforcing library policies and procedures. Helps with daily financial management and budgeting responsibility. Provides leadership in assessing library needs based on use, experience, and trends; and creates plans and policies to adapt and improve library services. Assists with ordering materials in the assigned library collections. Maintains necessary statistics and generates reports as needed. Communicates the value of library services and collections to the public. Stays informed of current trends in public libraries and youth services.
