Technical Librarian develops and maintains a collection of technical information and provides research and reference support to researchers, scientists, and engineers. Builds an extensive network of technical information resources and contacts from various sources like government agencies, universities, professional and industry associations to obtain the required information. Being a Technical Librarian communicates with researchers to develop and maintain a broad knowledge and understanding of the organization's relevant topics and effectively target technical publications as information sources. Creates abstracts, bibliographies, and metadata to classify the information. Additionally, Technical Librarian obtains translations of literature as needed. Supports and maintains the library's technology infrastructure and information retrieval tools. Typically requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The Technical Librarian work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a Technical Librarian typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. This is an entry-level position for library school graduates. Employees in this class are expected to learn the specific applications of professional training by the performance of duties under the general supervision of professional librarians in higher level positions. Instructions may be issued at the beginning of each new assignment. Employees in this class are assigned work progressively more difficult as their experience in the field broadens. Supervision may be exercised over Library Assistants, Clerks, Pages and Volunteers. Related work is performed as required

Masters degree in Librarianship from a library school that is accredited by the American Library Association or recognized by the New York State Education Department as following accepted education practices.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Eligibility for a New York State public librarian's professional certificate at time of application. Possession of certificate at time of appointment.
