Technical Librarian develops and maintains a collection of technical information and provides research and reference support to researchers, scientists, and engineers. Builds an extensive network of technical information resources and contacts from various sources like government agencies, universities, professional and industry associations to obtain the required information. Being a Technical Librarian communicates with researchers to develop and maintain a broad knowledge and understanding of the organization's relevant topics and effectively target technical publications as information sources. Creates abstracts, bibliographies, and metadata to classify the information. Additionally, Technical Librarian obtains translations of literature as needed. Supports and maintains the library's technology infrastructure and information retrieval tools. Typically requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The Technical Librarian work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a Technical Librarian typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Establishes policies, strategies and plans for Youth and Teen ServicesManage programs and material selections within the budget, Plans promotes and implements special programs for children while simultaneously working on several projectsResponsible for a variety of diversified activitiesSelects books and other materials for preschoolers through high school. Promote literacy and provide materials that reflect the diverse interests of the community. Develop and promote programming to serve the diverse interests and needs of the community.Conducts story hours, prepares reading lists; provides reader’s advisory and reference aide to patrons. Coordinates the Summer Youth Volunteer Program. Assists the Library Director with planning and coordinating routine and special projects, as well as the supervision of the efficient operation of the library. Develop curriculum connections across the range of grades. Develop a close and positive relationship working relationship with local schools and the PTA through visits, book talks and programs for classes who visit the library.Writes reports, letters, newsletters, grants and press releases, designs forms, produces fliers and newsletters using desktop publishing.Provides excellent customer service to the public and staff The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of library science and administration. Thorough knowledge of general reference, classification, ordering, circulation, and children's library work. Thorough knowledge of reader interest levels and of books and authors. Ability to plan, organize and direct library developed programs.Ability to interpret community interest and needs, and to plan and provide continuing library services. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time as required.Must possess the ability to read, write and speak English. English-Spanish bilingual abilities preferred.Must possess a knowledge of basic business equipment (i.e. computers, software and library websites, scanners, fax machine, copy machine, calculator and various other business equipment as necessary).Reasonable accommodations will be made for otherwise qualified individuals with a handicap. - 13 Days Ago
