    The Technical Recruiter and Advisor is primarily responsible for working closely with GCCC Technical programs and recruitment of technical program students and academic advisement to technical program students. This position will work closely with the technical faculty on recruitment and retention of technical program students. This position will also work in coordination with the Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid, and the institution to insure students' progress towards certificate or degree.


    Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

    Recruitment:
    • On and off recruiting responsibilities to include: representing GCCC at college planning conferences, high school visits, and other recruiting activities across Kansas, Oklahoma, and Colorado.
    • Process all submitted applications and supplemental items information in assigned territory and programs on CRM.
    • Maintain written and oral communication with prospective students.
    • Assist in the development of all recruitment materials, specifically related to technical programs.
    • Facilitate in the recruitment efforts by faculty, specifically coordinating all recruitment efforts with technical program and faculty.
    • Recruit Technical Students: Special emphasis will be placed on the development and administration of recruitment plans targeting service area high school students and graduates.
    • Responsible for phone and mail communications with senior prospective students, and students interested in any technical program.
    • Will be knowledgeable of Kansas Promise Act and assist in recruiting Kansas Promise eligible technical students
    • Assist with technical program campus visits and recruitment events.
    • High school visits: Will visit students at their high school. Some overnight travel required.
    • Adult learning center: Assist with recruitment efforts at the Adult Learning Center.

    Admissions Events:

    • Will assist in the development and implementation of admissions events (May require an occasional Saturday or evenings).

    College presenter:
    • Will become a certified "Planning for College" presenter.
    Office coverage:
    • Will assist with office duties during peak enrollment times and when necessary.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Advising:
    • Provide advising to technical students using a developmental approach which includes educational, career, and support.
    • Assist technical faculty in enrollment of technical program students – must work closely with technical faculty to become knowledgeable in schedule and needs of programs.
    • Provide academic advising, transfer evaluation review, course selection and registration assistance.
    • Maintain student records and monitor academic progress and performance of advisees.
    • Assist in advising students outside of tech programs as needed during peak times.
    • Prepare reports, including statistical summaries of advising contacts.
    • Assist with and participate in all orientation, advising, and enrollment days.
    • Serve as resource to faculty, staff, and all students, with special emphasis in technical faculty and students.
    • Participate in professional development and continuing education opportunities.
    • Other related duties as assigned

    • To provide excellent customer service. Respond to requests in a timely and professional manner.

    • To maintain confidentiality in the handling of all college information.

    • To maintain a friendly, professional work environment and business-like appearance.

    Knowledge and Skills:

    Experience, A minimum of two years (three years preferred) documented experience as a professional academic advisor in higher education. Demonstrated experience in developmental advising (or equivalent experience) at an accredited institution.

    Interpersonal Skills, A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence others.

    Other Skills, Strong work ethic; excellent interpersonal skills; exemplary written and verbal communication skills; able to work independently and with a team; critical thinking skills; exceptional listening skills; able to manage multiple tasks at once; organized and detail oriented. Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of diverse constituents includes students, parents, faculty, and administration.
    Proficiency with use of technology such as the Internet, Email, and MS Office Suite is essential.

    Physical Requirements, The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
