The Information Technology Specialist (ITS) provides broad scope technical support to staff of the Iowa Poison Control Center (IPCC) to optimize operational efficiency. Serves as a liaison between the UnityPoint Health IT department and IPCC to meet the organizational needs. Will be integral in all IT systems operations, updates, new products, staff education, and roll-out. May also participate in regularly scheduled or limited scope projects as assigned.

User Support

• Provides technical assistance and support for all IPCC staff, on-site and teleworking, to assure high performance, consistency and reliability of all devices involved in the daily activities of the IPCC.
• Manages the technical assignments and activities of a diverse team of clinicians and administrative staff and provide training and leadership to them as necessary. IPCC staff have varying degrees of tech savvy and therefore have diverse needs.
• Updates and deploys hardware or software, remote or onsite, diagnosing connectivity or data access issues, answering questions about hardware or software, and helping users access shared drives and devices.
• Assists IT with implementing and updating EMR software.
• Identifies, manages and resolves issues with new hardware and software, and work with the UPH IT and UC Team and the end-users to quickly resolve those issues and prevent delays.
• Responds to team members’ requests effectively and communicates with them to address issues.
• Prepares reports/service tickets on hardware and software issues.

Database Management

• Oversees the maintenance, backing-up and securing of IPCC databases, as well as retrieving files when needed. (e.g. EMR archived data).
• Maintains data security and IPCC integrity during migrations, backups and day-to-day use.
• Supports UPH system-wide IPCC database access.
• Develops, updates and manages IPCC collaboration site and document repository in order to better facilitate information management, clinical workflow and continuity.

Other IT Projects

• Conducts data queries, constructs data dashboards, and other projects for internal and external stakeholders to meet the needs and fulfill deliverables of the IPCC.
• Collaborates with IPCC’s website developer/host, Education/Outreach Coordinator and Marketing Consultant on periodic updates to IPCC’s website.
• Assists with IPCC growth opportunities along with America’s Poison Centers (APC)-driven initiatives (e.g. chat, text, recordings).
• Performs data surveillance.
• Schedules, coordinates and initiates videoconference resources.
• Ensures security and privacy of networks and computers.
• Ensures IPCC IT compliance with UPH policies.
• Oversees and tracks IT and telecom inventory.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

• Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
• Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
• Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
• Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
