    Responsibilities:
    The Remote Sensing Laboratory Division (RSL), located on Nellis Air Force Base, seeks a talented individual to support the RSL as a Technical Writer II.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Develop, write, and edit procedures, manuals, policies, plans, technical reports, project correspondence, committee charters, briefing packages, brochures, news articles, information releases to the public, and other technical and administrative publications according to established format and quality standards.
    • Lead project teams consisting of exempt and nonexempt employees.
    • Organize assigned document development projects, collects project-related information and data from interviews with subject matter experts, and does literature research to support the project.
    • Work with graphics specialists to design and prepare illustrations, charts, and diagrams for use in documents.
    • Prepare technical information products for DOE approval to publish, assists authors in meeting DOE and publishers’ publication requirements, and coordinates technical information product duplication and distribution.
    • Stay abreast of current trends in technical and scientific terminology developments to write more meaningful reports.
    • Perform related work assigned by manager.
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in related field and at least 2 years’ of professional level experience or equivalent training and experience.
    • Able to utilize independent judgment, creativity, initiative, and ability to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems and compose technical correspondence and reports.
    • Able to prioritize and schedule multiple activities in the most efficient manner and meet required deadlines.
    • Experience in the use of web-based software and Microsoft Office applications.
    • Experience reviewing and editing expansive documents with flexible designs.
    • Must possess good interpersonal skills with proficient verbal and written communications capabilities.
    • Able to communicate with all types of people in a tactful, professional, and effective manner while screening and maintaining confidentiality.
    • Able to remember extensive policies, procedures, terminology, schedules, personnel, and other details.
    • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
    • Flexible work schedule can be negotiated with the manager; employees can work 5/8's, 9/80's or 4/10's work-weeks.
    • The primary work location will be based at the Remote Sensing Laboratory at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, NV (RSL-N).
    • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
    MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

    (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”
