TAMIU is a growing university of over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant bilingual and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. For more information, visit www.tamiu.edu. This is a non-tenure track position. Primary duties will include a 2/2 teaching load plus administrative work for the FYWP. Duties also include serving as the representative of the FYWP at university meetings; updating syllabi templates for ENGL 1301, 1302, and 2311 in consultation with faculty, the department chair, and dean; selecting and adopting textbooks for ENGL 1301, 1302, and 2311; overseeing the assessment of FYWP courses; conducting observations and evaluations of faculty who teach ENGL 1301, 1302, and 2311; providing on-going professional development to faculty who teach FYWP courses; and helping to identify qualified adjuncts who can teach FYWP courses. This position is a 10.5 month appointment and it requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. Required Qualifications: The successful candidate must hold a doctorate in English. ABDs will also be considered but must have earned a doctorate before appointment. We strongly encourage candidates with specializations in rhetoric and composition or creative writing. We desire candidates who: (a) have prior experience coordinating a First Year Writing Program or Writing Center, (b) have prior experience developing and leading professional development sessions for faculty, and (c) have the ability to teach the courses in the FYWP, as well as courses that support our English majors and minors, such as: Teaching of Composition, Writing in the Disciplines, and Advanced English Grammar. We offer competitive salaries and a benefits package including health insurance, retirement benefits, and life insurance. Additional pay is available for summer teaching. Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the university.
