The historic Cape Playhouse in Dennis, MA — the theatre where Broadway goes to summer- is accepting resumes for the Technical Director for our 2024 Summer Season which includes productions of ‘Tick, Tick,...Boom!’, ‘Million Dollar Quartet’, ‘Beautiful: A Carole King Musical’, ‘Waitress’, and ‘The 39 Steps’. The Salary for this position is $1100 per week. Salary is based on a 50 hour scheduled work week, any hours worked after 50 will be compensated.
Technical Director is responsible for leading all elements of scenic engineering, construction, load-ins, and strikes typical for a traditional summer theater. Technical director will be responsible, with aid from the Assistant Technical Director, for drafting scenic elements, costing sets and managing the shop. They will be responsible for communicating with the Production Manager and Designers to ensure that all scenic elements are properly executed for the design while staying within the specified budget. The Technical Director will communicate the needs of the shop with the Production Manager and ensure it has the resources it needs to function in an orderly, safe, and efficient manner. They will oversee the Assistant Technical Director, Lead Carpenter, Shop Supervisor, Scenic Charge, and all other shop staff.
The Cape Playhouse values collaboration, hard-work, compassion, and creativity. Applicant must have excellent communication skills and be a team player. Proficiency in Vectorworks/AutoCAD required. Experience in a professional shop is strongly recommended. Skills should include advanced construction, costing sets, materials purchasing, and rigging. TD must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting, bending, standing, climbing.
The TD reports to the Production Manager. Position begins on the Cape on April 22nd and ends September 15th. There is flexibility on start and end dates.
