Job Description
The Arts Center Technical Director is an experienced theater technician who sets a standard of excellence for the technical operations and the physical facility and equipment in the Arts Center at Iowa Western’s professional two-theater complex. The Technical Director is the resident authority on the use and operation of live performance systems, including lighting, sound, video, staging, rigging, and A/V systems, as well as support services available in the Arts Center at Iowa Western. The Technical Director is responsible for technical oversight of performances, events, and rental programs, supervision of student and contracted employees, facility safety coordination, and inspection of facility for maintenance needs. The Technical Director works closely with the Arts Center Director and other Arts Center staff, Fine Arts academic department faculty, visiting artists and crew, and other Arts Center users to determine and coordinate the best technical support possible for successful facility utilization for every event. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Advance planning of each event, compiling equipment list needed on a “per show” basis and coordinate rental, delivery and pick-up of equipment not in the Arts Center inventory.
- Oversee coordination/scheduling of technical staffing for all events.
- Ensure safe working conditions and practices for all Arts Center users through the development and implementation of theater safety training programs and completed safety checks.
- Oversee use, scheduling, maintenance, and storage of technical equipment inventories including lights, risers, musical instruments, acoustical shell, microphones, lecterns, sound and video equipment, etc.
- Conduct regular reviews of Arts Center facilities, equipment, and supplies, determining immediate and long-range technical needs.
- Assist in evaluation and purchase of goods and services as required.
