Essential Duties
Conducts research on desktop products in support of PC procurement, management, and development efforts. Evaluate and recommend products for purchase;
Assists as directed in writing technical specifications for purchase of PCs, desktop hardware and related products;
Answers routine questions and recommend remedial action on use of assigned personal computer (PC) operating system and general business productivity applications software;
Performs preventative maintenance including checking and cleaning of workstations and peripherals;
Applies diagnostic utilities to aid in troubleshooting of reported issues;
Records, tracks, and documents the support ticket problem solving process, including all successful and unsuccessful decisions made and actions taken through to final resolution;
Assesses the needs for and implements performance upgrades to PC boxes, including the installation of CPUs;
Collaborates with LAN technicians/network administrators to ensure efficient operation of the company's desktop computing environment;
Ensures that physical desktop connections (i.e. RJ-45 Ethernet jacks, RJ-11 telephone modem jacks, connectors between PCs and servers, etc.) are in proper working order;
Prepares tests and applications for monitoring desktop performance, and provides performance statistics and reports;
Assists in preparing, maintaining, and upholding procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically monitoring desktop operations;
Documents instances of desktop equipment or component failure, repair, installation, and removal;
As needed, liaises with third-party support and PC equipment vendors;
As necessary administers and resolves issues with associated end-user workstation networking software products;
Ensures all new service requests and customer inquiries are logged into the IT Support ticketing system;
Prioritizes and schedules request and escalate issues when needed to appropriate IT staff;
Sets up user accounts and shared resource accounts in accordance with established guidelines;
Accesses software updates, drivers, knowledge bases and frequently asked questions (FAQ) resources on the internet to aid in problem resolution;
Performs on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex PC problems for a variety of end users, and recommends and implements corrective hardware solutions, including off-site repair as needed;
Installs, diagnoses, repairs, maintains, and upgrades all hardware and related equipment while ensuring optimal workstation performance;
Installs, configures, tests, maintains, monitors, and troubleshoots associated end user workstation software and networking software products;
Develops and maintains an inventory of all barcoded IT equipment and other peripheral equipment;
Configures personal computers with standard office applications or other software packages and install at client locations;
Constructs, installs, and tests customized configurations based on various platforms and operating systems;
Responds to incoming calls, pages, and/or e-mails regarding PC and/or hardware problems;
Recommends, schedules, and performs PC, hardware and peripheral equipment improvements, upgrades, and repairs;
Confers with higher level staff in resolving complex hardware or software problems;
Communicates with users via telephone, e-mail, instant message or in person;
Participates as a team member on projects;
Supervises department employees, including assigning and reviewing work, leave requests, training, setting goals, coaching, and conducting performance evaluations, and making recommendations on hiring, terminating, and disciplining personnel;
Motivates and works with employees to correct deficiencies;
Plans, directs, and coordinates, through subordinate-level staff, the department work plan;
Assists with managing the career development and performance of staff assigned;
Assists in the development and improvement of department policies and procedures;
Assists with presentation and justification of annual budget requests; monitors and reconciles assigned budgets;
Monitors departmental purchasing processes to ensure compliance with County policies and procedures and determines most efficient utilization of financial resources;
Meets with management staff to identify and resolve problems;
Assigns projects and programmatic areas of responsibility; and reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures;
Demonstrates leadership and ability to deliver efficiency and quality at the highest of standards;
Substitutes, if assigned, for immediate supervisor or coworkers during temporary absences by performing delegated duties sufficient to maintain continuity of normal operations;
Attends and participates in meetings, training, and information sessions;
Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field;
Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrate commitment through cooperative team and individual efforts; and
Creates a high-quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.
Other Important Duties*
Performs such other related duties as may be assigned;
Adheres to all County performance standards as well as departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPI) that measure individual work product;
Works both traditional and non-traditional business work hours, including but not limited to; evening shifts, weekends, and holidays;
May be required to wear a uniform as per department appearance standards;
Occasional travel; and
As members of the County of El Paso Emergency Response System, all El Paso County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to train on emergency response and/or perform certain emergency services at the direction of their supervisor.
