    POSITION OBJECTIVE

    The Visual Technology Developer will be a member of the Case Western Reserve Interactive Commons, a campus wide innovation institute. The Visualization Technology Developer will support research, innovation, interdisciplinary knowledge sharing, and visualization of information for the Interactive Commons (IC). The Visualization Technology Developer will provide technical support to faculty, staff, and students to apply cutting-edge visualization technology to achieve research and learning goals, including the use of the Microsoft HoloLens, as well as the Microsoft Surface Hub, a visualization wall, a motion capture system, and other modalities. Key responsibilities will include interfacing with internal teaching and research faculty and student constituencies, as well as external corporate and nonprofit partners to understand project objectives and to work individually, or collaboratively with IC teams (other computer developers, curriculum designers, artists and graphic designers) to provide hands-on computer programming, design and development of software to create 2D and 3D visualizations to meet project objectives.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    1. Oversee and carry out hands-on implementation of data visualizations and software development in support of research and learning objectives, including leading and coordinating software customization projects. Establish and refine effective and consistent protocols for 2D and 3D design. Test and debug applications in conjunction with internal and external partners and end-users. Participate in development of best practices of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and software quality standards. Create test plans, data, procedures, and scripts. Assure software meets quality standards. Manage projects to specified time constraints. Coordinate and integrate assigned work with other team members. (50%)
    2. Provide consultation and serve as technical liaison to aid faculty/students/collaborators in the creation of visualizations for use in classroom instruction. Advise, consult and provide technical support and training to faculty, students, and research staff from multiple academic disciplines in the creation of visualizations. Use honesty and integrity to keep university data confidential.(20%)
    3. Interface with Microsoft collaborators, other internal and external constituents, and vendors to optimize interaction with holograms and other visualizations. (10%)
    4. Provide on-call and remote support as needed. Provide technical support for software applications, including analyzing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex problems. Support management and operations of visualization walls and other hardware/software resources coordinated by the IC. (10%)
    5. Write system requirements and/or specification documents. (5%)
    6. Provide mentorship to students and student workers within the IC. (5%)

    NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    CONTACTS

    Department: Continuous contact with IC faculty director, executive director, technical and design personnel to coordinate projects and meet objectives.

    University: Frequent contact with faculty, research staff, postdocs, and students engaged in research and teaching that use, or have the potential to use, visualization resources.

    External: Moderate contact with external partners to develop visualization resources. Occasional contact with vendors in order to evaluate products and services.

    Students: Frequent contact with students.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

    May supervise student employees.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience: Related field experience required.

    Education/Licensing: Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or related degree required. Master's Degree preferred. Certification in Microsoft HoloLens technology preferred.

    REQUIRED SKILLS

    6. Experience in data visualization and interactive user-interface design.
    7. Skills and experience in the integration of technology with learning desired, but not required.
    8. Experience with Unity and C# ("C Sharp") programming language and experience in 3D modeling software such as Maya, 3D Studio Max or Blender (or similar) desired, but not required.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Working conditions are typical of an office environment and computer rooms. Some heavy lifting up to 49 pounds may be required. Some travel may be required.
