  • Overview

     

    The Tax Manager is the liaison between the partner, director, the client, and the professional staff. Managers are responsible for managing tax projects and client engagements simultaneously, and scheduling, staffing, and coordinating engagement workflow. Managers establish relationships with clients and are often the primary client contact/representation of the Firm. They are expected to cross-sell services and bring in additional projects from existing clients. 

    Meaningful Work 

    1. Participates in client strategic planning including analysis, plan development, recommendations, and presentations.
    2. Monitors audit profitability, suggest measures to improve procedures.
    3. Establishes project budget for tax services and manages those budgets throughout the engagement process. 
    4. Assists with client billings to ensures write-offs are appropriate.
    5. Represents clients on IRS matters before federal and state tax authorities.
    6. Coordinate various phases of large tax engagements, including staff requirements, locations to be visited, and scheduling.
    7. Monitors budget throughout engagements through reporting and analytics to ensure profitability. 
    8. Provides a high level of technical expertise to team members by keeping abreast of industry standards. 
    9. Coordinates and direct meetings/presentations to clients and prospective clients.
    10. Understands client satisfaction on engagement to help ensure client retention. 
    11. Supervises and conducts in-house continuing education seminars.
    12. Participates in on-site and virtual interviews of experienced staff as needed.
    13. Identifies additional services to existing clients and establishing new business through contacts and referrals
    14. Begins to cross-sell services and bring in additional projects from existing clients. 
    15. Ensures that all documentation required for Quality Control and Peer Review is included on all the assignments.
    16. Develops team members through the Performance Management Process, provides weekly check-ins and providing real-time feedback to enhance growth and development of others. 

     

    Education/Experience

    Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university and/or equivalent years of experience. CPA license required. Minimum five years of experience in tax compliance. Industry specific knowledge maybe required. Previous experience managing work teams preferred. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Must be able to multi-task and has excellent follow-up abilities. Ability to read, speak and write English.

    Mathematical Aptitude - Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may require ability to utilize principles of fractions and/or interpret graphs.

     

    Functional Reasoning - Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership. Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution.

     

    Situational Reasoning - Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.

    Physical Ability - Tasks involve the ability to travel to meetings outside office, exert moderate physical effort, and may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials up to 20 pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation and/or repetitive motion.

     

    Sensory Requirements - Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Requires oral communications ability.
