Telecommunications Director is responsible for the strategic planning and design of an organization's telecommunications systems. Develops policies and procedures for installing and maintaining telecommunications equipment. Being a Telecommunications Director plans and manages complex installation or repair projects. Assesses current and future telecommunications needs and researches and plans improvements to meet those requirements. Additionally, Telecommunications Director trains and develops staff. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Telecommunications Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Telecommunications Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Safety Specialist

  • NATURE OF WORK

     

    A Safety Specialist enforces Verita safety standards and ensures proper identification, locations, and marks of utilities to minimize accidental damage or disruption of service due to construction activities. These activities include but are not limited to; ensure proper locates of underground infrastructure with documentation, ensure jobsite safety for aerial/underground, assist the Director of Health & Safety with vehicle inspections/coordinating training/permits/and any other safety activities as deemed necessary.  The safety specialist will oversee liability claims and support prevention efforts for Verita telecommunication, will identify, assess, and make recommendations that will manage and mitigate the organization’s operational risks.. This position reports to the Director of Health and Safety. 

     

    REQUISITE SKILLS

     

    Education / Certification:  

    • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • OSHA 10 Hour Construction and/or 30 Hour Construction a plus. Will train the right individual. 
    • MISS Dig RTE Training a plus. Will train the right individual. 

     

    Experience:  

    • 3-5 years working with Vermeer or Ditch Witch DDD, or equivalent.
    • 3-5 years reading blueprints/underground utility plans.
    • 3-5 years operating a Horizontal Directional Drill. 
    • 3-5 years operating bucket trucks and performing aerial work.
    • 1-3 years of safety experience (safety committee, OSHA 10/30, etc.).

     

    Technical Skills:  

    • Knowledge of utility depths and placements.
    • Able to read blueprints/utility plans and interpret work assignments.
    • Understanding of basic markings and symbols used on quarter section and plat maps, project plans, and blueprints.
    • Ability to read and interpret rules and regulations; local, state, and federal. 
    • Must be proficient in the use of computers.
    • Organizes daily locate assignments into a route designed to minimize backtracking and increase efficiency in covering an assigned area.
    • Ability to mobilize, safely and efficiently, setup and operate HDD equipment to maximize daily productivity and quality while providing resolution to problems that may arise at drill site.
    • Effectively lead drilling teams to ensure employees have the necessary resources and knowledge to operate machines.
    • Understands and can perform all work associated to aerial cable placement and is able to follow construction methods at a distinguished level.
    • Ability to inspect fall protection and associated parts/systems. 

     

    Physical Requirements / Aptitude:  

    • Able to work in trenches, manholes, tunnels, and confined spaces and in work settings with moderate to loud noise levels.
    • Able to move in different positions – crouching, kneeling, reaching, bending, and lifting 75 lbs., unassisted.
    • Ability to operate a motor vehicle/truck.

     

    Other:  

    • Willing to work overtime when required; willing to travel and to work in all-weather conditions.
    • Self-motivated and able to work well in groups.
    • Ability to multi-task and change assignments as necessary to ensure compliance and safety.
    • Ability to speak in large groups and communicate effectively.
