Develops policies and procedures for installing and maintaining telecommunications equipment. Being a Telecommunications Director plans and manages complex installation or repair projects. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. Responsibilities:
- Conduct utility line locates using various methods and equipment
- Mark the location of underground utility lines accurately and clearly
- Collaborate with construction crews to ensure the safe excavation of utility lines
- Utilize specialized tools such as cable locators, ground-penetrating radar, and electromagnetic equipment
- Perform land surveying tasks to identify property boundaries and easements
- Read and interpret blueprints, maps, and drawings to determine the location of utility lines
- Operate machinery such as backhoes or forklifts when necessary
Requirements:
- Previous experience in utility locating or related field service work
- Knowledge of cabling systems and underground utilities
- Familiarity with land surveying techniques and blueprint reading
- Ability to operate equipment such as backhoes or forklifts
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately mark utility line locations
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with construction crews effectively
