Major Goals and Responsibilities: The main goal of the position is to provide installation and support obligations of the companies products and solutions. This position requires the ability to program and troubleshoot Legacy and New Telecom systems and services as well as other related products. The technician will receive training and certification on certain other products and technologies the company markets.
Products and Services involved in this job: The Company currently sells and supports voice and data products and services from a variety of manufacturers and providers. The primary product lines are Epygi VoIP Hosted and Premise based systems as well as Mitel MiVoice Business Premise based based solutions. We also have a large base of ESI product we still maintain. We also handle a few other Premise Based and Hosted/Cloud based services along with the data infrastructure products needed to support them (routers, firewalls, switches etc). Other offerings include Enterprise Wi-Fi and Specialty Wireless products as well as Video Surveillance systems. The company also represents numerous telecommunications carriers for Internet, Data and Telecom related services.
Essential Activities:
People Managed: Initially the technician will only be charged with managing themselves. However, there are advancement opportunities for Field Supervisors and Management Positions for individuals the right attitudes, skills and knowledge.
Primary People contacts: The technician will work daily with the team of other techs and administrative people. They will also coordinate with the Customer Service and Project Managers when needed. Daily activity is organized by the companies Service and Dispatch Coordinator.
Characteristics: being a customer field technician requires a unique set of abilities in order to be effective:
Prerequisites: A solid background in telecommunications and data networking is preferred for this position. Some years of experience in the field as a technician are also looked upon favorably. Certifications on any telecom products is highly sought after but is not mandatory.
Toughest Part of the Job: The most difficult part of the technician’s job is organizing his or her day and time. The company relies heavily on technician’s to manage their own time for soft jobs while making sure that scheduled work is done and completed on time.
