Teller provides in-person customer service to process routine financial transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, transfers, check cashing, and loan payments. Processes requests for money orders, cashiers' and travelers' checks, and foreign currency exchanges. Being a Teller responds to customer inquiries, identifies needs, and makes referrals or cross-sells bank products and services. Prepares daily cash settlements and proof record for cash drawer and ATM following standard procedures. Additionally, Teller follows all required security procedures and policies regarding customers' personal information and money handling. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a head Teller. The Teller works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Purpose
Perform limited transactional duties to serve members by receiving or paying out funds with high degree of accuracy. Maintain accurate transactional records, providing basic cash receipt and payment services in accordance with credit union policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
Greet and welcome members to the credit union in a courteous, professional and timely manner, providing prompt, accurate, and efficient member transactions.
Receive share drafts/checks and cash for deposit to accounts, verify amounts, examine share drafts/checks for proper endorsement, and enter deposits into computer records.
Cash share drafts/checks and process withdrawals; pay out money after verification of signatures and member balances.
Assist with mail or email transactions, when available.
Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge on all credit union products and services that are handled or promoted by tellers. Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge on all related polices and procedures, rules and regulations for the teller area, including robbery procedures.
Promote, explain, and cross-sell credit union services.
Receive mortgage, consumer loan, and other payments, and ensure the payments match balances due. Enter payments into computer. Generate member receipts.
Place hold on accounts for uncollected funds.
Count, check, and package coins and currency.
Balance cash drawer at the end of the shift and compare totaled amounts to computer-generated proof sheet. Research and resolve discrepancies. Report any discrepancies to the supervisor as necessary.
Ensure that the teller station is properly stocked with forms, supplies, brochures, etc.
Report malfunctions of teller terminals and other equipment used at the teller station.
Check night depository bags and record proper information according to credit union procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in cash handling or customer service preferred
- Strong mathematical skills for accurate transaction processing
- Knowledge of debits, credits, and basic accounting principles
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail and accuracy in handling financial transactions
- Familiarity with cash register operation is a plus
