Test Engineer
  • Atomic Machines Inc.
  • Berkeley, CA FULL_TIME
  • Atomic Machines is creating a smart digital MEMS factory consisting of modular building blocks (each a digital microfactory) that will enable real-time manufacturing of complex devices from CAD and a broad library of input materials.  With physics-informed generative design AI, we will deliver true “text to device,” where the prompt is a specification of a desired device and the output is a functional implementation of that device, immediately.  Finally, the other 98% of MEMS devices – micro-robotics, true lab-on-a-chip (not “chip in a lab”) microfluidics, tunable antennas, speaker pixels, and much more – that could never be manufactured will be possible, and prototyping and volume manufacturing will occur on the same hardware.  Our first device (which is none of the above) already has significant commercial traction and a very large potential market.

Our engineering offices are in Berkeley and Santa Clara, California.

    About this Role:

We are seeking an experienced engineer to develop innovative and comprehensive testing infrastructure for our best-in-class commercial devices. In this role, you will bring your experience developing novel methods to evaluate the performance and reliability of advanced microsystems. You will apply your first-principles and cross-cutting knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and software engineering in the fast-paced, multidisciplinary setting of our R&D laboratory and hybrid semi-automated fab. At the same time, you will contribute critically to our mission to revolutionize manufacturing by translating the developed metrology capabilities to our unique digital autonomous platform at scale. This role reports to the Product Engineering Lead in the Devices and Processes organization and is a full-time position located in our Berkeley location.

    • Work hands-on designing and setting up test systems that enable automated and/or high-throughput analyses, implementing both custom and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment solutions depending on testing needs.
    • Develop and execute test plans to assess quality and reliability of device products.
    • Establish and maintain traceable databases and software tools for querying and visualizing data.
    • Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshooting of test failures, and work with design, process, and quality engineering teams to implement corrective actions.
    • Participate in design reviews and contribute to design for testability (DFT) initiatives to optimize test coverage and efficiency.
    • Maintain product test documentation including test reports, procedures, and specifications in compliance with industry standards and certifications.
    • Own development, maintenance, and organization of firmware that controls the device and test setup.

    What You'll Nedd
    • Disciplines of study preferred: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields.
    • Demonstrated strong analytical skills using design of experiments (DOE), analysis of variance (ANOVA), and other statistical techniques.
    • Hands-on experience setting up, customizing, communicating with, and controlling electronics lab instrumentation to test microsystems.
    • Experience in an object-oriented programming language (preferably Python).Prior experience operating metrology equipment for evaluating high frequency and high precision electrical signals.
    • Experience with Oscilloscopes, DMMs, DAQs, sensors, and actuators is imperative.
