Records data from testing in standard formats and provides results to product and engineering teams. Being a Testing Technician, Sr. assists technical teams with recommendations to resolve testing problems, roadblocks or equipment malfunctions that impact the performance or validity of testing. May recommend changes in testing methods or equipment changes. Additionally, Testing Technician, Sr. requires knowledge of industry specific tests and testing equipment. Typically requires an associate degree. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Testing Technician, Sr. works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. MATERIALS TESTING LEADPosition Purpose:The Materials Testing Lead will oversee the day-to-day operations of the testing labs (concrete, compaction, soil borings, and penetrometer testing) working with external contractors and internal project managers to determine testing needs and necessary scheduling. Wightman supports testing efforts on a wide variety of projects ranging from commercial site work to roadways, utilities, and residential.Essential Functions:
- Serve as the testing calls lead, reviewing project plans and specifications to determine testing requirements.
- Conduct materials testing and analysis using tools and equipment and apply engineering knowledge.
- Prepare and review reports and document project activities and data.
- Read and review project plans and specifications to determine material testing requirements.
Required Traits & Characteristics:- Proven skillset to manage and coach a small team.
- Excellent time management skills and attention to detail for record-keeping purposes.
- Flexibility as the influx of work can be impacted by seasonal workloads.
- Team player who desires to achieve results.
- This role will be a hybrid exposure to the lab/office setting as well as fieldwork.
Organizational Relationships:- Reports directly to Construction Services Manager.
- Lead a five-person Materials Testing team.
Required Education/Experience:- Excellent experience utilizing Microsoft Excel.
- Nuclear Density, ACI Concrete, MCA Level 1 & 2, MDOT Density Tech, MDOT HMA Lab Tech Level 1, MI Aggregate Sampling and Level 1, MDOT Paving Operations, SESC, CSWO, MDOT Bridge Construction, MI Bit QA/QC Certifications.

Preferred Education/Experience:- Civil Tech or Construction Management Degree
- Project Management Experience
Travel:- Position based in Benton Harbor.
- Travel between offices for collaboration with team members, project meetings, and fieldwork will be required.
