    Contract Description

    Position Title: Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner

    Reports To: Crime Victim Services’ Child Advocacy Center (CAC) Staff and the CAC Medical Provider for clinical supervision

    Status: Contract

    Basic Functions: Provide medical assessments to patients under the age of 18 or adults living with developmental disabilities with suspected sexual trauma or other identified trauma. This includes neutral, fact-finding, age-appropriate interviews, specialized exams, and related testing, treatment, and follow-up. The position also involves working with a multi-disciplinary response team and court testimony, as required.
    Provide general support and assistance in the daily mission of the Child
    Advocacy Center of West Central Ohio (CAC). Provide documented medical examinations on site at the CAC clinic or local Emergency
    Departments as needed or requested by the CAC Staff.

    Required Qualifications:
    The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner will maintain a Registered Nurse Licensure in the State of Ohio; successful completion of approved Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training; previous pediatric nursing experience; maintain professional medical liability insurance (to be paid for by the CAC).

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience providing medical care to children.
    • Understanding of complex family dynamics.
    • Ability to communicate well with children and families, team members and partnering agencies.
    • Ability to receive feedback effectively and regularly.
    • Ability to work effectively in complicated and/or crisis situations.
    • Pass a current BCI and FBI background check
    • Available and sensitive to the needs of the CAC clients and the CAC philosophy

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Provide child sexual assault/abuse exams following the “Ohio Protocol for Sexual

    Assault Forensic and Medical Examination”; testing, treatment, and follow-up, as needed.

    • Utilize on site, child friendly examination room and equipment (to include photo documentation equipment) for the use of comprehensive medical examinations, general examinations as needed and follow up examinations as needed to children
    • who are suspected of having suffered sexual or other trauma as needed.
    • Take complete medical histories and perform complete medical screenings.
    • Document satisfactory completion of competency-based training in the performance of child-abuse examinations (minimum sixteen hour introductory course of training on the medical examination of sexually abused children).
    • Complete all required documentation and reports, including photo documentation, in a timely manner.
    • Maintain EMRs on the CAC case tracking system.
    • Collect and preserve forensic evidence per state protocols.
    • Obtain and present information in a neutral manner that meets legal requirements for evidence, and meets social service needs for protection and treatment.
    • Respond to subpoenas and testify in court as an expert witness.
    • Participate in quality assurance activities, including regular peer review and case review.
    • Meet continuing education requirements as required by National Children's Alliance.
    • Assist the CAC Staff in developing protocols, policies and procedures.
    • Participate in on-going CME relevant to child abuse evaluations, including specific trainings as requested.
    • Testify as needed in court on child abuse cases.
    • Maintain licensure/certification.
    • Maintain positive working relationships with team members and agency partners.
    • Maintain confidentiality.

    Pay: $31.00 - $32.00 per hour
