Tool Design Engineer designs and develops tools and machinery used to facilitate and optimize manufacturing processes. Reviews product design and build requirements to determine tooling concepts, design options, testing plans, and specifications. Being a Tool Design Engineer develops designs for fixtures, jigs, gauges, cutting and forming tools, carts, racks, and other items to support production. Utilizes Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to create accurate, complete, and concise design models and documentation to fabricate tools. Additionally, Tool Design Engineer estimates costs, resource requirements, and materials required for tools. May manage the sourcing, quoting, or procurement of purchased tools. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Tool Design Engineer work is closely managed. Assists in the implementation and maintenance of all QMS requirements including gauging, process control plans, and customer specific requirements with the aim of meeting or exceeding quality objectives and improving customer satisfaction.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:- Assist in maintaining and keeping ISO documentation up to date.
- Able and willing to assist management for company progress.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with established internal control procedures by examining records, reports, operating practices and documentation.
- Assist in providing timely and accurate reviews of Corrective Actions and closures.
- Assist in conducting internal audits.
- Assist in plan resolutions to audit findings.
- Perform process capability studies.
- Assist in initiating Document Change Orders (DCO’s) and Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s).
- Assist in setting up inspection procedures (Excel files, IQMS, etc.)
- Maintain up to date inspection sheets within system.
- Assign, track and close RMA’s.
- Conduct and interpret SPC studies.
- Conduct and interpret Gage R&Rs.
- Assist with verification and validation activities.
- Create rework work orders.
- Control non-conforming product physically and electronically.
- Tabulate, Monitor and Follow-up on Trends related to Scrap or Defect Notifications.
- Perform first articles on new or revised products.
- Facilitate all in-house and external gage calibration.
- Create and maintain control plans.
- Maintain training records for employees.
- Provide weekly progress reports to the Director of Quality / Quality Manager.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)- Quality orientation and attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with strong team-building skills
- Experience with the following software will be helpful:
- MeasureX
- Zone 3
- Measure Mind
- CMM
- Minitab Statistical Software
- An ability to manage multiple priorities
- Above average in problem-solving techniques
- Must have an understanding of measurement theory and processes.
- Must have an understanding of ISO 9001:2015 quality processes.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to support and/or lead root cause analysis, disciplined problem-solving and decision -making processes.
- Proven leadership, interpersonal skills and personal development skills.
- Familiar with Lean Principles and Six Sigma.
INDIVIDUAL REQUIREMENTS- Individuals in this job must be willing to change and make changes with little notice.
- Individual must have an understanding of the importance of safety and assist in providing a safe environment for employees.
- Individual must understand and be proactive in preventative action in processes and procedures that will affect the way we do business.
