Tool Design Engineer designs and develops tools and machinery used to facilitate and optimize manufacturing processes. Reviews product design and build requirements to determine tooling concepts, design options, testing plans, and specifications. Being a Tool Design Engineer develops designs for fixtures, jigs, gauges, cutting and forming tools, carts, racks, and other items to support production. Utilizes Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to create accurate, complete, and concise design models and documentation to fabricate tools. Additionally, Tool Design Engineer estimates costs, resource requirements, and materials required for tools. May manage the sourcing, quoting, or procurement of purchased tools. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Tool Design Engineer work is closely managed.     Summary: 

    Responsible for providing engineering support by completing parts of engineering projects or the entirety of less complex transportation projects. 

    Essential Functions:

    • Work as part of a team and independently in evaluating and applying Traffic Engineering principles, standards, and criteria
    • Utilize various design software/tools for traffic analysis for a variety of conditions
    • Adhere to project schedules and budgets
    • Ability to prioritize workload to meet milestones for multiple projects 
    • Prepare technical reports and papers for clients
    • Assists with traffic signal and all-way stop warrant studies in accordance with MUTCD
    • Assists with traffic plans for signs, pavement markings and traffic signal design

     

     Competencies:

    • Ability to take direction and work independently as well as effectively collaborate with teams
    • Possess analytical and data processing skills
    • Conduct operational traffic analysis using a variety of modeling software
    • Perform field review of the project sites and provide signing, pavement marking, signalization and ITS inventory
    • Strong analytical and data processing skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 
    • Attention to detail and ability to complete diverse assignments
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills with proven technical writing ability

     

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • None

     

     Education and Experience:

    • Undergraduate or graduate degree from accredited program in civil engineering. 
    • Zero to two (0) – (2) years of experience in traffic engineering
    • Valid driver's license, in conjunction with successfully passing the Company’s MVR.
