Tool Design Engineering Manager manages the design and development of tools and machinery to facilitate and optimize manufacturing processes. Leads design reviews to determine tooling concepts, design options, testing plans, and specifications. Being a Tool Design Engineering Manager provides expert input to resolve design issues and innovate solutions. Oversees the design, fabrication, sourcing, and procurement of fixtures, jigs, gauges, cutting and forming tools, carts, racks, and other items to support production. Additionally, Tool Design Engineering Manager ensures design documentation and models for the fabrication of tools are accurately prepared. Controls budgets, costs, resource allocation, and materials required for tools. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Tool Design Engineering Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Tool Design Engineering Manager typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     Mechanical Engineering Lead

    Location: Livonia, MI

    Summary: The Mechanical Engineering Lead is responsible for creating technical designs for hoppers, feeders, and conveyors within the manufacturing industry. Will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day engineering operations. Will oversee and work on drawings from inception to completion based on customer specifications.

    Essential Functions:

    • Construct and modify 3D/2D models per customer standards using one or more of the following systems: CADRA, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks.
    • Prepare layout and detail drawings of design as required to project timelines.
    • Develop creative and innovative engineered solutions that meet or exceed customer requirements.
    • Review and study customer specifications, engineering schematics and other data to determine the design procedures needed to generate and release digital and/or hardcopy printouts related to the engineering and manufacturing requirements.
    • Perform necessary engineering calculations and proper material selection to satisfy the required design functionality.
    • Call meetings as needed for your department and communicate with customers in timely manner.
    • Provides support for department and gives guidance on design requirements.
    • Be knowledgeable of the release systems and procedures and releases all the necessary detail drawings in digital and/or hardcopy formats per established requirements of the internal and external customers (for example release to purchasing for make/buy decision, input for controls design and engineering, and documents to support field installation and service personnel, direct digital transfers to customer systems).
    • Other functions may be directed by Management.

    Skills/Abilities:

    • Experience with MS Office Suite (Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
    • Experience troubleshooting problems, finding solutions, and implementing those solutions.
    • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task effectively
    • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision.

    Education and Experience:

    • Minimum 5 years’ relevant industry experience within design
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience with CAD Systems and software including SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.
    • Experience with CADRA a plus
    • B.S. Mechanical Engineering a plus
    • Experience with specialty parts feeding and material handling systems required.

    Working Conditions:

    • May be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, airborne particles, and occasionally chemical fumes.
    • The noise level within the manufacturing floor may be faint to moderate, and occasionally loud.
    • Eyewear is mandatory while in the manufacturing area.
    • Safety shoes such as hard soled shoes are to be worn in the manufacturing area.
    • Must be able to work overtime when required as job permits.

    Physical Demands:

    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time if necessary.
    • Typically sits for extended periods of time at a computer.
    • Must be able to bend, and lift objects up to 35 pounds if required.
