The Garden Center Support Staff Supervisor oversees daily operations of the garden center and serves as an MOD (Manager on Duty) for the Garden Center Support Staff when scheduled. The primary focus of this position is ensuring a positive shopping experience for customers. The Garden Center Support Supervisor will be required to take an active role in many Garden Center functions, especially stocking, inventory and merchandise care. More importantly, the Garden Center Support Staff Supervisor will serve as a main point of contact in the garden center to field questions and resolve issues pertaining to garden center product and operations. This position reports directly to the Garden Center Location Manager and Garden Center Assistant Manager.
Minimum education requirements:
High School Diploma or GED
Strong knowledge of plant material, soil amendments and other plant care products.
Minimum experience requirements:
At least 1 year of work experience in overseeing a staff, giving work direction, hiring and scheduling.
At least 1 year of retail experience
At least 1 year of relevant experience, i.e. working in a garden center.
Position Requirements:
Skill in establishing priorities and managing both workload and time wisely.
Ability to motivate, train and discipline staff when required.
Ability to adapt to many different situations and seasonal changes in sales and merchandise.
Ability to multitask and follow through on work assignments., especially those that are detailed.
Ability to problem solve and display an aptitude for conflict resolution.
Essential Job Functions:
Ensure proper merchandising and adherence to merchandise display standards.
Ensure accurate inventory through year-round cycle counts and year-end physical inventory.
Stock merchandise in greenhouse and specified “impulse” areas outside of the greenhouse. Verify correct pricing, shelf tags and signage.
Maintain plant material through proper watering, receiving, display and tagging.
Customer Service: e.g. answering customer inquiries and assisting in helping customers make the appropriate buying decision.
Work closely with Location Manager and Receiving Manager to ensure appropriate RSO stock levels.
Give work direction and ensure employee productivity.
Examine merchandise to ensure that it is correctly priced and displayed and that it functions as advertised.
