Top Actuarial Executive provides leadership, innovation, and oversight to an organization's actuarial function. Develops policies, procedures, and formulas to guide statistical analysis and actuarial research and accurately evaluate the likelihood and financial impact of various risks. Being a Top Actuarial Executive ensures policies and procedures are implemented effectively to ensure regulatory compliance of all financial operations and products. Responsible for the strategic planning and oversight of product development. Additionally, Top Actuarial Executive establishes profitability targets and regularly reviews product rates, premium levels, and rating systems to evaluate effectiveness and measure performance against targets. Reviews and validates financial statements, regulatory filings, and other financial projections before publishing or submitting. Communicates with marketing and other key stakeholders to present rating structures and systems and ensure adequate understanding of products. Applies knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to calculations in life, health, social, and casualty insurance, annuities, and pensions. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require Associate of Society of Actuaries (ASA). May require Fellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA). Typically reports to top management.     SUMMARY: To provide technical support primarily related to rate level analysis, working under supervision on most assignments.



    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    ·       Produce rate level analysis exhibits using standard actuarial methods

    ·       Extract, sort and summarize data from various sources for use in actuarial analyses

    ·       Complete statistical portion of State Insurance Department transmittal forms and supporting exhibits for rates and rules filings.  Prepare responses to routine DOI inquiries

    ·       Prepare reports of underperforming accounts for dealer management process

    ·       Develop knowledge of Company and Product terminology, policies, practices, techniques, and procedures



    COMMUNICATIONS:

     Internal contacts include peer-level personnel in the Division’s Sales & Marketing and Compliance/Regulatory Administration departments.  External contacts include State Insurance Department personnel.


    For actuarial positions within the Actuarial Program, we aim to develop employees both through completion of actuarial examination and through practical experience. We support employees through the completion of the actuarial examination and credentialing process via competitive paid study time and full coverage of exam expenses.

     

    Eligibility for certain aspects of the Actuarial Program vary by position and are dependent upon the employee staying within good standing with the Actuarial Program.

    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science or Statistics
    • Successful completion of 1-4 CAS Actuarial Exams
    • Relevant industry experience is a plus
    • Proficient in computer spreadsheets and statistical analysis programs, such as Excel, Access and/or SQL
    • Excellent mathematical, problem-solving skills
    • Attention to detail and organized is necessary
    • Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong quantitative analytical skills

    $60,000 - $90,000 a year

    Protective’s targeted salary range for this position is $60,000 to $90,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective’s total compensation package for employees.


    This position also offers additional incentive opportunities through an annual incentive based on individual and Company performance.
