    POSITION OVERVIEW

    This Director Category Management will be responsible for serving as an analytic and category management leader using the category management process as a decision platform for all initiatives designed to maximize market penetration, increase profitable growth and enhance customer intimacy.  This position will also drive strategic category management and shopper insights by establishing, maintaining, and nurturing effective relationships with key internal and external partners to support achievement of local team goals. 

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Partners with internal and external stakeholders and customers to develop and execute McCormick category strategies across all channels
    • Establish Category Management defining strategies to provide the framework for account specific plans focused against merchandising, assortment, pricing and shelving
    • Helps design and implement category strategies that identify shared opportunities for incremental growth across categories within primarily the Grocery channel
    • Proactively delivers actionable thought leadership and business insights to McCormick Sales team and customers to support category and McCormick growth objectives
    • Create and develop tactical and strategic customer relationships, including senior level
    • Collaborate with internal partners such as Field Sales, Internal Sales, Marketing and Insights to develop and execute category strategies, and educate on trends and results
    • Develops and executes customer-specific learning plans in partnership with Sales and Insights teams
    • Responsible for creating/customizing impactful, fact- and insight-based selling stories around key opportunities or threats by applying a variety of analytical and category management frameworks and skill sets
    • Support the annual customer level business planning process
    • Spearhead the development and execution of category management initiatives to improve sales and profitability
    • Oversee Category Management partnership with third party agencies including Brokers and data and insight providers

     

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Management or related field; MBA preferred
    • Minimum of 10 years of relevant Category Management /Sales/Shopper Insights experience working in consumer goods company, including experience managing people
    • Must be a self motivated strategic thinker with a bias for action and demonstrated skill leading and developing others
    • Expertise in the Category Management process and proficient in syndicated and panel data (IRI, Nielsen, etc.)  as well as familiarity with pricing, promotion and assortment optimization software knowledge and experience working with customer POS data systems (Retail Link)
    • Excellent organizational/project management skills.  Ability to manage multiple priorities and create structure and process where it does not currently exist
    • Strong analytic skills and demonstrated ability to translate insights into actionable business recommendations that deliver positive results
    • Excellent verbal and written presentation skills, with the ability to analyze and understand the data and effectively communicate insights to intern & external audiences
    • Demonstrated creative sales development, influencing and communication skills
    • Strong understanding of industry and global/national category management  and shopper insight trends, framworks and best practices
    • Ability to travel up to 25%
