Director, Category Management and Merchandising

  • Responsibility

    This is a critical role in Parkland’s continued success and growth. The role is accountable for the following:

    • Lead category management, merchandising, and pricebook, functions.
    • Partner with operations and marketing teams, as well as 3rd party vendors, to ensure flawless execution of programs.
    • Drive performance by utilizing internal, 3rd party, and vendor data.
    • Analyze large datasets to develop actionable insights.
    • Synthesize insights across sources and data points and transform them into key conclusions, compelling business stories, and strategic recommendations.
    • Develop and implement strategic and tactical plans relating to product assortment and positioning, pricing, and promotions.
    • Regularly reviews product mix and pricing with cooperation of suppliers and operations and modify category plans as needed to be responsive to customer needs.
    • Monitor competitive and industry activities and use findings to support growth, continuous improvement, and innovation.
    • Negotiate, track, and reconcile vendor rebates and allowances.
    • Scan the market for new technologies; develop relationships with external vendors and evaluate competing firms, technologies, and marketing strategies.
    • Test and report on innovative/new products.

    Education

    • Bachelor degree in Business or Marketing; and,
    • An MBA will be considered an asset.

    Experience

    • 10 years’ experience in a Category Management or Merchandising role with a national scope.
    • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to build, coach, lead, and mentor diverse teams.
    • Experience in convenience store industry.
    • Experience in contract and vendor management.
    • Proven financial skills relating to budgets and business analysis.
    • Business acumen with extensive knowledge of retail operations & merchandising.
    • Strong working knowledge of market research data and reporting (Nielsen, etc.), Customer POS, and shelf management software.
    • Ability to develop and deliver a strategic plan, measuring and monitoring results, and make recommendations to achieve growth targets.
    • Willingness to travel to stores, regional offices, and trade shows, as necessary; and
    • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

    • Proven ability to build collaborative relationships at all levels of the organization.
    • Dedicated to providing high levels of satisfaction to team, customers, and sites; and,
    • is naturally optimistic, persistent, and competitive in the pursuit of sales goals.

    Preferred
    • University - Bachelors or better in Marketing or related field
