Top Community Development Executive leads and plans all aspects of an organization's economic development lending activities to support or subsidize improvements in the community. Develops and maintains relationships with groups, agencies, and organizations in the community to identify business development opportunities. Being a Top Community Development Executive establishes the policies guiding the community development strategy and ensures the organization's compliance with the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and other regulations. Contributes to marketing efforts to foster company visibility and awareness of projects or initiatives. Additionally, Top Community Development Executive monitors ongoing initiatives to evaluate progress and efforts. Researches and evaluates current and future community needs to identify lending and other business development opportunities. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Top Community Development Executive manages a departmental function within a broader corporate function. Develops major goals to support broad functional objectives. Approves policies developed within various sub-functions and departments. To be a Top Community Development Executive typically requires 8+ years of managerial experience.   • Overview

    This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Executive Director Community Development provides leadership and management for the center in accordance with all YMCA of Greater Kansas City policies, procedures and standards. This position is accountable for all aspects of the center outreach programs and services including volunteer development, partnership development, fiscal management, financial development, as well as the program and membership experience.

     

    Hiring Range:  $68,000 - $72,000

    Responsibilities

    Center Operations

    • Create and maintain a center atmosphere that values diversity, equity and inclusion.
    • Demonstrate four character values: caring, respect, honesty and responsibility.
    • Develop and promote a service-oriented culture among associates based on relationship building, active listening and service above self.
    • Ensure excellence in the member and program experience.
    • Model relationship-building skills in all interactions with associates, volunteers, members, program participants and the community.
    • Complete timely performance evaluations of all associates and ensure that payroll and personnel information is accurate and submitted on a timely basis.
    • Implement and sustain high quality relationship-based programs that focus on participant engagement strategies.
    • Routinely evaluate member and program service quality to ensure standards are in place, followed and corrected when appropriate.
    • Support the professional growth and development of associates and maintain a succession plan for key positions.
    • Maintain complete familiarity with all risk management procedures and policies.
    • Monitor and manage systems, drills and training related to risk management and safety for participants and employees.
    • Adhere to all systems and procedures as outlined in the Association’s business office.
    • Adhere to association goals and strategies and effectively communicate them to associate and volunteers.
    • Accountable for annual budget development, monthly budget monitoring and budget achievement.
    • Participate in association-wide projects when needed.
    • Ensure that all Association personnel policies and procedures are adhered to within the center.
    • Maintain and be thoroughly knowledgeable with systems of financial control including revenues, expenses and inventories as outlined by the Finance Office.
    • Continually look for ways to incorporate more efficient operating practices.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Philanthropy

    • Research and review additional funding opportunities that connect to the YMCA mission.
    • Track and create a calendar of grant opportunities.
    • Implement strategies to achieve grant and program goals through successful, high-quality programs and great service.
    • Achieve 100% board giving and associate participation in Annual Campaign.
    • Focus on identification, cultivation, and securing major gifts.
    • Achieve center annual campaign goal.
    • Engage, lead and support associates to participate and accomplish their respective donor and volunteer recruitment goals.
    • In partnership with Grants Administrator, search out new grant opportunities for new and existing programs.
    • In partnership with Grants Administrator secure funding through implementing writing and managing grants with success for re-funding opportunities.

    Community Development

    • Recruit and develop a center advisory board composed of 20 active members.
    • Collaborate with the association office and Community Mission Board to set strategy to fully engage community leaders, businesses, participants, members, volunteers and associate in a successful Annual Campaign.
    • Identify and explore community needs and partnerships that could be served by the YMCA.
    • Identify and engage influential community leaders as advisory board members and help them to embrace the Y Mission.
    • Be a strong representative of the YMCA in the community by sharing our mission and values.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
    • Understanding of community and social issues.
    • Able to make independent and sound decisions in a fast paced environment.
    • Able to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality.
    • Detail oriented with good organizational skills, and be multi-task proficient.
    • Possess the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities and problem-solve issues as they arise.
    • Strong computer skills with the ability to adapt to new software.
    • Must have reliable transportation. Travel around the Greater Kansas City area is required.

     

    AFTER HIRE REQUIREMENTS:

    • YMCA of Greater Kansas City new associate training course within 30 days.
    • Point of Sale systems training within 30 days.
    • Performance Excellence Planning completed within 90 days.
    • Working towards obtaining YUSA Leadership Certification.
    • Must maintain a current motor vehicle license and acceptable driving record that meets YMCA standards.
