Valley Community Services Board (VCSB) is located in Staunton, Virginia, amidst the scenic beauty of the Shenandoah Valley, surrounded by the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains. The area offers a diverse range of experiences and charming boutiques, antique shops, and a vibrant culinary scene for residents and visitors to enjoy. VCSB, dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals through comprehensive mental health, developmental disability, and substance use disorder services, is seeking a Director of Finance to perform complex executive work planning, organizing, and directing the financial activities of the CSB, and to serve as the primary subject matter expert in matters related to finance and accounting.
The salary range is $92,750 - 139,400 accompanied by a competitive sign-on bonus. In addition, Valley Community Services Board offers a generous benefits program (valued at 34%), including paid time off from the first day on the job with one week front-loaded, 11 paid holidays, a robust health insurance plan, and participation in the Virginia Retirement System, which provides short-term disability coverage free after one year of participation. Employees transitioning from another CSB or Virginia state agency are granted an adjusted PTO accrual rate, acknowledging their years of experience within the state employment system. VCSB provides schedule and work site flexibility once an employee is adjusted to their role; however, members of the Executive Leadership Team are not permitted to work a fully remote schedule. The final candidate will be required to relocate within a reasonable distance to be physically present in the office on a regular basis. Reimbursement for up to $10,000 in allowable relocation expenses is available if necessary to facilitate relocation.
The successful candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, with a minimum of seven years of experience, or a master’s degree in the same field with at least five years’ experience, along with at least one year of leadership experience. Demonstrated proficiency in managing federal and state funds, financial reporting, and analysis, and developing or maintaining internal controls is essential.
Additionally, candidates with the following attributes will be strongly preferred: a current certified public accountant (CPA), certified management accountant (CMA), and/or chartered financial analyst (CFA) credential; previous experience in a community services board or similar public healthcare organization; familiarity with Medicaid reimbursement; strong detail management and organizational skills; an appreciation for and support of diversity in all its forms, with a demonstrated ability to interact with individuals with diverse backgrounds; excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to collaborate with others and overcome interpersonal obstacles professionally; and an eagerness to invest in one's community through service.
