    Key Responsibilities

    Partner with HR leadership, HR partners and senior management across the University to identify and respond accordingly to institutional needs, compensation trends and best practices.
    Propose strategic direction and solutions to address emerging compensation issues.
    Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations.
    Build and maintain relations with school/center key management to influence programs that are U niversity wide, that help attract, motivate, and retain top talent. Provide direction and ongoing guidance to HR leadership and partners in all areas of compensation.
    Direct the HR Compensation function and partner with schools and centers to assure consistency in compensation administration.
    Manage the Compensation staff. Grow and mentor the staff in the development of skills required to serve the University community.
    Oversight of the compensation budget and daily operations of the Compensation office.
    Manage compensation for specifically assigned areas such as Human Resources and the SEVP centers.
    Administer and participate in evaluation of the Executive Compensation program.
    Provide the University Board of Trustees Budget Steering Committee with annual reports on market trends, economic factors, and the overall performance of the University's pay program.
    Active participation in the Ivy Plus Compensation Group and other appropriate peer groups.
    Plan and implement the annual merit increase program.
    Develop, present, and participate in programs regarding compensation policies, procedures, and theories.

    Qualifications

    The successful Executive Director of Compensation will have a bachelor's degree (master's preferred). Minimum of seven to ten years of experience in compensation, leading, managing and consulting on compensation programs at all levels of the organization. Seven to ten years of progressive management experience in Human Resources. Professional certification in Human Resources preferred. Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) strongly preferred. Mastery of compensation theory. Analytic rigor and the ability to strategize solutions that meet long-term objectives. Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing large-scale projects. Experience implementing and monitoring incentive programs. Knowledge of the laws, regulations and theories associated with these functions. Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization. Experience with Workday or similar HRIS program.

    Other attributes include skill managing politically sensitive issues within a complex higher education environment; experience in long-range planning for compensation programs in a changing academic environment without sacrificing quality; proven leadership skills combined with tact and diplomacy; outstanding interpersonal and communications skills; strong conceptual, analytic, and problem-solving skills; self-starter with drive, persistence, discretion, and integrity.
