  • PROGRAM: District Services and Consultation II. POSITION/TITLE: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Consultant III. SALARY SCHEDULE: Per Individual or Agency Contract. Based on current rate structure, experience, references, and qualifications. IV. QUALIFICATIONS: A. Minimum Qualifications 1. Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of relevant experience in a school setting 2. Experience working with students, families, and staff from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds 3. Experience providing professional development or instruction to adult learners B. Preferred Qualifications 1. Masters’, CAGS or Doctoral Degree preferred, but not required. 2. Certified or able to be certified as MA DESE Administrator with SEI Endorsement in one of the following areas: -Supervisor/Director -Principal/Assistant Principal -Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent 3. Prior teaching experience, especially as a bilingual and/or English as a Second Language Teacher preferred, but not required. 4. Bilingual skills preferred, but not required. 5. Experience interpreting and working with collective bargaining agreements, as well as local, state and federal laws with regard to staffing. Core Skills and Knowledge 1. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build coalitions and collaborative working relationships with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups. 2. A systems thinker and change agent who is a self-starter. 3. Demonstrated cultural awareness, agility and ability to build trust, credibility and navigate a complex political and ideological landscape 4. Excellent command of current diversity, equity, and inclusion concepts and issues in public schools or institutions 5. Strong track record in managing change with an understanding of the history and politics within institutions that might impact the implementation of effective diversity change efforts 6. Exceptional oral and written communication skills with experience in multiple communication modes, including social media, and an ability to articulate the importance of inclusion and diversity to the broader regional community among NRC member districts. 7. Knowledge of laws, regulations and guidelines related to diversity, inclusion and nondiscrimination in schools, including Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, IDEA, ADA, and Section 504. 8. Experience using data and analytics to develop insights and drive decision-making. V. LENGTH OF POSITION: This position provides on-demand consultation to North River Collaborative and school districts in the region. Hours and schedule vary depending upon Collaborative and school district needs. Interest survey data and district feedback to be shared through the interview process. VI. REPORTS TO: Executive Director/Asst Executive Director VII. EVALUATION: Per NRC Personnel Policies & Procedures Handbook, DESE Professional Evaluation VIII. RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Teaching and Learning 1. Works with the NRC leadership team as well as the leadership teams in multiple school districts to identify, assess, and create action plans to address institutional biases and structural racism in district programs and practices, and their associated impacts on underserved and underrepresented communities. 2. Using disaggregated data, prepare actionable items and metrics to close the opportunity gap and reduce discipline and attendance disparities, when present. 3. Using disaggregated data, prepare actionable items and metrics to analyze discrepancies in the identification of students of color for 504 Plans or Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). 4. In addition to these outputs, help to reshape programs and solutions that may be creating the disparities. 5. Collaborate with curriculum leaders to identify more culturally responsive and justice-oriented learning opportunities and to modify curricula, as needed. 6. Build familiarity with the spectrum of programming for students with disabilities across the collaborative and districts and participate in the promotion of inclusive practices and disability awareness. B. Student, Staff and District Relationships 1. Form and facilitate partnerships with student leaders, build upon and institutionalize student-led equity initiatives to continue to enhance student climate and engagement. 2. Engage directly with students, families, and staff to establish support groups and networks for underserved and underrepresented communities. 3. Provide oversight for regular, consistent assessments related to school climate, diversity, and inclusion, including analysis of results; determine appropriate actions based on the results. C. Program Monitoring 1. Establish protocols and a system for reporting, tracking, and monitoring incidents of bias, racism, and discrimination 2. Provide guidance to collaborative and district leadership in determining appropriate responses to these incidents 3. Measure, track and analyze the effectiveness of the collaborative and districts’ equity initiatives to promote, build, and foster an anti-racist and multi-cultural institution; report on progress and identify opportunities for improvement 4. Develop and implement feedback and monitoring systems that engage and capture the voices of staff, families, and students. D. Family and Community Engagement 1. Partner with community groups to help ensure the community’s understanding of the existence and impact of bias, discrimination, disability, and racism within the region. 2. Act as liaison to relevant town groups/boards and present at school committee meetings. 3. Develop strong and substantive relationships with families to advance equity and inclusion. E. Consultation and Collaboration 1. Provide administrators and staff with support and guidance in addressing and responding to specific incidents, including modeling inclusive communication and equitable discipline 2. Facilitate district or regional DEI committees to advance the commitment to promoting, building and fostering anti-racist, anti-biased, multicultural institutions. 3. Provide support, coaching and mentoring to district leadership regarding diversity, equity and inclusion practices F. Collaboration with Human Resources 1. Assist in designing and implementing talent management processes and systems to increase diversity of the District faculty, staff, and leadership team. 2. Consult with the Human Resources departments to develop and deliver meaningful and engaging required training regarding civil rights, discrimination, harassment, and other relevant mandatory training. 3. Provide support and tools for hiring teams, including assisting with the creation of bias-free job descriptions, postings, and searches that reach and help identify diverse candidates. G. Special Projects and Other Duties 1. Plan, coordinate, and implement special projects and all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Assistant Executive Director. 2. Maintain transparent and open communication regarding schedule, work initiatives, and regional trends/collaborations with the Executive Director and Assistant Executive Director as well as the NRC Board of Directors.
