      Who We Are:
      Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 15,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has 1 early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9th – 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

      What We Need: Under the direction of the Director of Equity and Inclusion the Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Manager will be to provide leadership, planning, coordination, training, and support in the on-going development of an organization-wide infrastructure that supports support diversity, equity, and inclusion as a core value throughout all aspects of the school system. Our department will lead the district's collaborative efforts in building a culture of equity and inclusion for ALL students, families, employees, and community members. The goal of this position is to support the director in facilitation, and coordination of high quality learning that builds professional capacity to continuously enhance the district's efforts to close the opportunity gaps and to disrupt and dismantle inequitable practices.
      Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Manager is expected to successfully perform the following responsibilities:

      • Assist the director with conducting walkthroughs and other data collection, while examining school level and district structures and processes through a lens of equity and cultural responsiveness with respect to curriculum design and student supports.
      • Manage and develop the capacity of a cohort of School-Based Equity Facilitators to support growing demand and need for professional learning around equity and the WPS Equity framework.
      • Facilitate and organize regular meetings with the cohort of School-Based Equity Facilitators.
      • Collaborate within the Department of Equity and Inclusion by supporting FACE.
      • Serve as an active and contributing member of the Department of Equity and Inclusion team, and engage in continuous improvement, problem-solving, and individual and collective self-reflection and learning around issues of racial equity and and other interdepartmental initiatives.
      • Provides support to schools and departments on the development of programs and initiatives that support equitable access to educational rigor for all students.
      • Provides support to schools in developing and implementing school improvement plans that address eliminating gaps in student performance.
      • Provides support to offices, departments, and divisions in developing and implementing progress plans that address the systemic focus on equity and excellence.
      • Intiates and ensures collaboration with the Academic Supports and Programs (ASAP) to support schools in the development of initiatives that promote the accelerated achievement of underserved students.
      • Prepares reports and presentations designed to build capacity of WPS; identifing opportunities to build the capacity of WPS leaders and staff members through intentional trainings that focus on relationship-centered, equity-forward professional learning opportunities through the coordination and development of research-based learning experiences that honor diversities.
      • Provides professional development and/or facilitating workshops, coaching support to WPS educators, leaders, students, and/or families on issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
      • Plans and coordinates educational trainings and presentations designed to increase cultural competence related to diverse groups across lines of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, disability, and other identities.
      • Plans and coordinates educational trainings and presentations designed to build capacity around the WPS Equity Framework.
      • Establishes and maintains effective communications and working relationships among diverse groups of students, parents, District staff and departments, the community.
      • Promotes and supports the development of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive climate within WPS.
      • Collects and analyzes data and evaluates the effectiveness of programs and initiatives while supporting alignment ot equity assessment and strategic plan.
      • Remains up-to-date on current and relevant research, best practices, and other pertinent policies that relate to or impact efforts related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
      • Communicating, collaborating, and exhibiting professional behavior, tact and good judgement with working with administrators, colleagues, central office and school-based staff, students, parents/guardians, and the community.
      • Use technology other web-based productivity and collaboration tools to create publications and presentations.
      • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a flexible manner. Perform additional ad hoc duties as assigned by director.

      Qualifications:

      1. Bachelor's degree in education or related field required; master's degree in education or related field preferred;
      2. At least four years of increasingly responsible experience in a public education or related setting, experience in the development, administration, and facilitation of meetings and community groups.
      3. Must have a valid Illinois Professional Educators License.
      4. A comprehensive understanding of the historical, social, political, and economic structures that inform the nation's current equity and social justice landscape.
      5. Demonstrated professional experience designing and implementing multiple trainings for leaders in Intersectionality, Equity, Social Justice, Diversity, and Inclusion.
      6. Demonstrates expertise in the areas of educational equity, culturally responsive instruction, restorative practices and organizational development.
      7. Demonstrate proficiency in various instructional technology tools to include web-based productivity and collaboration tools (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, etc.).
      8. Evidence of successful interpersonal skills that will enable the candidate to communicate with diverse and multicultural populations in written and oral forms.

      Compensation: TBD based on education, experience, etc.
