Description
Position Summary
The Controller at BMSC plays a pivotal role in overseeing accounting, human resources, and IT functions. They work cross-functionally with Plant Operations and Technical Support to manage the various financial and accounting aspects of sales, purchasing, supply chain, R&D, manufacturing, quality and warehousing. This key leadership position involves meticulous management of financial reporting, budgeting, HR administration, sales and purchasing processes, inventory control, manufacturing cost analysis, IT projects, and quality initiatives tailored to the unique requirements of the personal care and cosmetic industry.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
Management Responsibilities
- Lead a team of Accounting, HR and IT Professionals that support the successful manufacturing of personal care products.
- Work Cross functionally with the leaders of Plant Operations and Technical Services to support the functions of the business
- Report to leadership on the state of the business and execution the company directives
- Finance and Accounting Responsibilities
- Ensure timely financial reporting, with month-end closure in 3 days and year-end closure within one week, adhering to industry-specific standards.
- Lead budgeting activities, conducting variance analysis tailored to personal care and cosmetic manufacturing.
- Manage daily close processes for AP, AR, Cash, and GL, with a focus on industry-specific financial intricacies.
- Maintain and audit financial policies and procedures relevant to the personal care and cosmetic sector.
- Monitor bank covenants, collaborate with auditors, and liaise with tax CPA firm with an understanding of cosmetic industry tax implications.
- Conduct internal audits and prepare reports aligned with personal care and cosmetic manufacturing compliance.
Human Resources Responsibilities
- Administer payroll and bonus programs.
- Oversee safety programs, risk management, and employee benefits.
- Manage security, theft prevention, payroll procedures.
- Administer insurances, benefits such as 401k and others.
- Help support the healthy growth of the team
Cross-functional Responsibilities
- Analyze product and customer profitability within the personal care and cosmetic manufacturing sector.
- Ensure accuracy in invoices, credit memos, and generate sales analysis reports, considering the specific nuances of cosmetic sales.
- Review and manage contracts in the context of personal care and cosmetic manufacturing.
- Work with Purchasing to ensure competitive quotes, integrate with ERP, and develop/maintain policies considering the specific requirements of cosmetic manufacturing.
- Review vendor contracts, address purchase price variances, and resolve purchasing-related problems within the personal care and cosmetic sector.
- Oversee cycle counting and physical inventory processes tailored to personal care and cosmetic manufacturing.
- Analyze inventory metrics, including obsolete, overstock, scrap, variance, and turns, with an understanding of cosmetic industry standards.
- Manage standard cost policies and procedures specific to the personal care and cosmetic manufacturing environment.
- Conduct cost analysis and productivity/ROI analysis specific to personal care and cosmetic manufacturing.
- Supervise building services, ERP/MRP systems, and analyze KPIs relevant to cosmetic manufacturing.
- Manage IT implementations and projects, ensuring the protection of intellectual property specific to personal care and cosmetic manufacturing.
- Develop and enforce IT policies and procedures tailored to the cosmetic industry.
- Analyze ROI for R&I initiatives within the context of personal care and cosmetic manufacturing.
- Collaborate on quality control measures and support analysis of Quality Metrics
Qualifications
Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- CPA designation preferred.
- 3 years of experience in a controller or similar role within the personal care and cosmetic contract manufacturing industry.
- Proven leadership in overseeing financial, HR, sales, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing, IT, and quality functions specific to the personal care and cosmetic sector.
- Experience with internal audits, external audits, and tax compliance within the context of personal care and cosmetic manufacturing.
- Strong track record of developing and managing budgets, implementing IT projects, and optimizing operational processes in the cosmetic manufacturing industry.
Physical Requirements
- Capable of climbing stairs, standing, bending, squatting, kneeling, turning, and stooping.
- Requires walking, as well as sitting for periods of time.
- Able to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work safely in a Warehouse or Manufacturing environment.
