Under general supervision the position performs field inspection work; reviews road construction plans; prepares, reviews, and processes highway construction permits, and provides services to support effective and efficient operations of the County. Provides prompt courteous service to customers. Reports directly to County Engineer and/or designee. Conducts field inspections for highway construction work and assists Permit Manager with documentation requirements. Documents violations or errors and contacts appropriate contractor, owner, or utility and responds to permit related complaints. Confers with engineers on designs and reviews necessary permits for construction, Conducts speed studies and traffic counts. Perform other duties as assigned or as directed.
High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Completion of two college level courses in engineering, drafting, or surveying or related field, and two years of experience in sub-professional engineering, construction; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Experience using computer hardware and software including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, survey software and hardware, etc. The use of CADD/GIS would also be preferred. Must possess and maintain in good standing, a valid Illinois driver’s license.
