Electrical Division Director

  • Position Summary:

    This is a senior level position that, with the assistance of the Estimating and Project Management team, is responsible for the estimation, management, and completion of commercial electrical work on both public and private construction projects. This is a new position and requires an enthusiastic, motivated, and self-sufficient individual willing to start a new department within our growing organization. In addition to providing proposals and managing projects, this individual is responsible for completing both general and specialized electrical work on projects until department growth is required.

    Work Functions & Responsibilities

    Estimating:

    • Review of plans, specifications and bid documentation in preparation of a bid.
    • Create RFI’s if necessary during bidding process to ensure an accurate bid.
    • Work with the Estimating and Project Management team to understand the full scope of electrical work required.
    • Attend walk-throughs as required.
    • Identify materials and quantities needed for project
    • Gather all supplier quotes and review for accuracy.
    • Determine if project can be completed by yourself or if additional support is required.
    • Provide a thorough and complete quote for the Estimation Dept. to include in their finalized bid package.

    Project Management:

    • Preparation of bid forms/documentation to include proposal information.
    • Preparation of Job Schedules.
    • Work directly with appropriate subcontractors and suppliers to ensure project efficiency.
    • Preparation/Completion of change orders.
    • Organization and purchase of appropriate job materials

    Electrical Work:

    • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
    • Install, maintain, and/or repair existing equipment
    • Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
    • Determine condition of electrical equipment, troubleshoot malfunctions, and determine needed repairs
    • Operate with safety as a primary concern for self and customer
    • Use a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps.
    • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
    • Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
    • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
    • Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations.
    • Operate with safety as a primary concern for self and customer
    • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications

    • 5-10 years experience as an electrician and/or individual electrical subcontractor.
    • E-1 licensure
    • Previous experience providing quotes and managing electrical projects.
    • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of software including Microsoft Office.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
    • Must have a valid driver's License

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Previous supervisory experience
    • Previous experience in the operations of an electrical company from an administrative perspective.
    • Degree in Construction Management or related field.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Stand for long periods of time.
    • Use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
    • Bend or twist their body.
    • Repeat the same movements.
    • Climb ladders, scaffolds, or poles.
    • Walk or run for long periods of time.
    • Use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects.
    • Use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects.
    • Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
    • Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, printer and telephone.
    • Semi-frequent stair climbing.
    • Frequent trips to pre-bids and site visits in various locations
