    Role Overview:

    The Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor is responsible for a team of manufacturing engineers and tasked with improving OEE, reducing costs alongside owning and resolving quality issues. The successful candidate will also play a key role in the future automation of the site. This is a key leadership role that comes with responsibility for the successful day-to-day running of the manufacturing engineering team partnered with the operation of the business, site improvements, and aiding in the shaping of our overall business strategy.

    The Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor consults and collaborates with the overall engineering team, including the Engineering Manager, to assist with the evaluation of new products and makes recommendations regarding time of manufacture and material consumption. The role also manages lean and productivity improvement projects.

    The Manufacturing Engineering team is responsible for determining the most efficient and economical methods to produce all parts required for the manufacture of IMI Adaptas products. This includes recommending / identifying the need for required machinery, tooling, and test equipment and preparing process documents for each part. This position frequently deals with other departments within the company to obtain information required to write process documents and process plans (routing) and must also deal with outside vendors regarding the purchase of machinery and tooling.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provides leadership to a team of manufacturing engineers.
    • Manages day-to-day needs of your team (e.g. time off requests, hours, etc.)
    • Develop internal relationships at all levels of the organization to resolve product/process design issues.
    • Improve the manufacturing processes and activities in the areas of safety, quality, supplies and costs.
    • Develop / Implement new process steps and training and work on continuous improvement of production processes.
    • Control and improve standards based on comparative studies and establish 'best in class' production processes for all products. (Lean tools)
    • Ensure optimal operational capacity of machines and systems.
    • Creating and implementing process and line layouts to manufacture product and/or improve efficiencies.
    • Identifying the need and designing / implementing tools to automate processes.
    • Contribute to the ECO process by providing design-for-manufacturing (DFM), design-for-assembly (DFA) and design-for-automation inputs as well as participate in DFMEA’s and lead PFMEA’s.
    • Undertaking installation (IQ), operations (OQ) and performance (PQ) qualification activities when required.
    • Ensure processes called on by the product’s process plan can achieve the required tolerances with repeatability and efficiently.
    • Identify and track savings from various projects throughout the year.
    • Generates/edits work instructions for the manufacturing processes in support of the ECO process if the work instruction requirement originates from a non-product-design change.
    • Act as Project Manager for equipment installation projects. Prepare all necessary documentation for capital equipment requirements and equipment projects.
    • Identify projects for improving productivity.
    • Research, investigate and implement new manufacturing technologies.
    • All other duties as assigned by management.

     

    Critical Competencies for Success

    Education and Experience 

    • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in Manufacturing / Production/ Industrial Engineering.
    • A minimum of 5 years related experience and/or an advanced degree in manufacturing / production industrial engineering or business with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing function. 
    • A minimum of 2 years of supervisor/leadership experience.
    • Strong background in lean methodologies and be able to facilitate lean kaizen events to implement lean improvements as required throughout the factory.
    • Must be familiar with multiple lean concepts including kanbans and single-piece flow, Kaizen and 5S.
    • Must have strong troubleshooting skills and be up to date with technologies used in assembly, testing, machining. Must also have knowledge of ERP systems.
    • Strong background in CNC machining equipment; machine tool; material handling systems; and industrial production equipment.
    • Should have basic knowledge of electrical, electronics and programming.
    • Ability to analyse part tolerance requirements and match them to process capability. The incumbent should be familiar with GD&T and be able to apply to drawings where appropriate.
    • Must be able to demonstrate strong project management skills.
    • Effective use of APQP tools such as process flow diagrams, PFMEA’s and Control Plans.
    • Knowledge of Quality Standards used in the medical device industry.
    • Must have excellent communication skills and be a dynamic, high-impact individual.

    Computers and Technology

    • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office products
    • Various quality engineering software products
    • Experience and exposure to CAD/CAM tools (Solid Edge/ Inventor preferred).
    • Strong troubleshooting skills and be up to date with technologies used in assembly, testing and machining.
    • Background in CNC machining, machine tools, material handling systems, and industrial production equipment preferred.
    • Basic knowledge of electrical, electronics and programming preferred.
    • Ability to analyse part tolerance requirements and match them to process capability.  Familiar and able to apply GD&T concepts.
