Job Summary
MAJOR FUNCTION: The Library’s Head of Information Systems, in coordination with the County’s IT Division, selects, configures and maintains hardware, software and associated peripherals which comprise the Library’s Integrated Library System (ILS) so that Library patrons and staff have access to a full range of system functionality including, the online public access catalog, circulation, acquisitions, cataloging and other ILS modules. This position involves administrative and highly technical work including, the planning, implementation and maintenance of the Library System’s networked and online digital information technology services. This position serves as the Library’s Webmaster and oversees the operations of the Library’s Technical Services section and the Fort Pierce Branch Library. Reports directly to the Library Director. In the absence of the Library Director, may serve as the Acting Library Services Director.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES: During emergency conditions, all County employees are automatically considered emergency service workers. County employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS: Use of at least one hand and fingers with dexterity. Good eye/hand coordination. Constant use of good near vision. Occasional walking and standing. Very frequent lifting up to 25 pounds. Ability to lift occasionally 30 pounds. Ability to push fully loaded book carts. Ability to reach above shoulder level, bend and squat to shelve or retrieve library materials. Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITION REQUIREMENTS: Constant work inside of the Library System facilities in a sedentary position. Some areas have high dust levels which may cause allergic reactions.
WORK HAZARDS: Possible vision dysfunction due to heavy computer work. Some areas of the library facilities have high dust levels which may cause allergic reactions.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: Master's degree in Library/Information Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association, and certified courses and/or other formal training in web development, computer and information technology relevant to this position.
EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years’ progressive experience in library work, three (3) of which must be in responsible supervisory and administrative work with library and information technology.
LICENSE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION: Valid Florida’s Driver’s License and must maintain a good driving record.
