We are seeking a Computer Services Assistant to join our team. This position involves responsibility for providing technical support services for computer training to personnel including the installation and maintenance of computer software and related peripheral equipment. The incumbent may also operate a micro-computer and related peripheral equipment. Work is performed under the general direction with wide leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in planning and carrying out the details of the work. Supervision over the work of others is not a responsibility of employees in this class. Does related work as required.
```Responsibilities```
- Installs, operates and maintains micro-computer software; • Installs hardware and other peripheral equipment; • Prepares documentation for users of on-line terminals, that provide direction for use of electronic office and administrative software; • May assist in training staff in the use of office software and administrative applications; • Reviews new programs to assure completion according to predetermined requirements; ; • Will operate a computer and related peripheral equipment in compiling and processing data for a variety of reports; • Consults with superiors and reports problems and deviations affecting workload and scheduling; • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of new trends and technology for computer hardware, software and networking; • Installs communication software for remote access to system; • Analyzes and takes corrective action to resolve network problems involving computers and data communications hardware and software; • Previews software for potential purchase and use.
`MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either: A. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable practices with an Associate Degree in computer science, electronic data processing or related field and one year of experience in the operation of microcomputers and peripheral equipment; including installation and maintenance of computer software and hardware; or B. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three years of experience as described in “A” above; or C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of “A” and “B” above.
