    Fair Shake Environmental Legal Services is a 501(c)(3) environmental law firm and community empowerment nonprofit that believes that all people and communities should have access to the tools of change and that everyone has the right to make decisions about their air, water, and places where they live, work and play. We work toward this vision by providing client-centered legal representation regardless of income; through education and capacity building in environmental justice communities to support community-driven decision-making; and by providing mentorship of new attorneys in the public interest environmental law field.

    Position Summary:

    Fair Shake is seeking high-level administrative and organizational support to the Executive Director and management staff to help advance Fair Shake’s mission in the areas of pro bono representation for the underserved, sliding scale legal services to individual and organizational clients, providing grassroots consulting for community-driven change, and public interest litigation. The candidate for this position will demonstrate attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, discretion in handling confidential information, excellent communication skills, be a self-starter, and have a capacity for both independent and collaborative work. Additionally, the candidate must be able to demonstrate courtesy, patience, and judgment in working with Fair Shake clients, community supporters, and organizational partners. This position is remote. However, much of the work is centered in Pittsburgh, PA, therefore Pittsburgh-based applicants will be preferred.

    Key responsibilities of this role include supporting the Executive Director in preparing and maintaining administrative documents for insurance, taxes, and employee benefits, supporting administrative needs for human resources, drafting cover letters and coordinating invoices for legal clients, preparing reports and taking notes for Board of Director meetings, and working with the Executive Director to manage external email communications. This role also includes supporting the administrative needs of Fair Shake’s legal services program by receiving intake calls from prospective legal clients, directing those calls to Fair Shake’s legal staff, managing internal data bases and records of incoming client requests, and helping the legal team manage logistics for cases. Additional responsibilities include supporting the organization by coordinating efforts in communications and website management, managing data entry and records of individual supporters, and overseeing administrative duties for event planning.

    The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of the administrative functions of Fair Shake and be a self-starter, skilled at multi-tasking, and able to prioritize tasks according to need. Attention to detail and accuracy is essential. A strong sense of discretion is required in dealing with sensitive and confidential information.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    · High School Diploma or GED required. BA/BS degree preferred.

    · A minimum of 2-4 years of high-level administrative experience and demonstrated organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

    Location:

    Fair Shake is an organization whose staff works remotely from their homes with shared office space available as needed. Organizational meetings are primarily conducted by video conference. An initial and annual home office stipend will be provided to enable remote work, and a computer and monitor will be supplied.

    Compensation & Benefits:

    Fair Shake is offering an annual salary of $55,000 - $65,000, depending on experience, and a competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision insurance; a health savings account; life insurance; short and long-term disability insurance; 401(k) plan (after eligibility period); 20-days paid vacation; 10-days sick time; paid parental leave; a home office stipend; and a staff discount at Patagonia.
