Background:

Superior graphite novel technology is a gamechanger in the emerging EV industry. In order to meet the massive increasing demand for LiB anode raw materials produced in the western world, Superior Graphite is initiating a new plant erection inside our Hopkinsville Kentucky plant complex.

Superior Graphite has been flexible to leverage existing proprietary technology in order to meet the accelerating demand for EV’s and energy storage in North American and European markets. Superior Graphite R&D developed a novel product to produce state of the art Anode Active Material (AAM). R&D’s integral role in the development of AAM; and continuous research into this novel product will be a huge component of this position. Other aspects of this work will involve the design and realization of new and modified pilot scale process equipment; process improvement/automation and maintenance; execution, support and supervision of process trials on pilot and production scale; project manager for R&D projects; support of operations in process technology problems, etc.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Researches, designs, and develops tools, engines, machines, controls, equipment, and mechanical processes
• Over sees production, installation, operation, maintenance, repair, and development of new, modified, and/or existing systems
• Determines the operations required for fabrication, assembly, machining, or processing of products from parts drawings, specifications, and other engineering material
• Responsible for the Pilot Plant facility at the Hopkinsville, Kentucky manufacturing complex, including maintenance and operation of the equipment in the area
• Responsible for Pilot furnace runs using pilot scale electro-thermal fluidized (EFB) reactors as instructed by Manager EFB R & D Group
• Work in a team environment supporting High Temperature Technology (HTT) R&D trials and new product development
• Identify and recommend process improvement projects in the HTT area
• Executes and implements process improvement projects in the HTT area as directed by supervisor
• Prepares CAD drawings for new equipment design, current equipment modifications, and plant layouts
• Coordinates new product development projects requiring the use of HTT
• Designs and develops PFD’s and P&ID
• Identifies and specifies suitable equipment for new processes and added capabilities for EFB R&D
• Works with outside engineering consultants on the redesign of present plant equipment and the design of new systems
• Works on capital projects as assigned and coordinates work activities by outside contractors as well as in house personnel to make sure the projects are completed on time and within budget while coordinating with current production requirements during the process
• Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience - Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, or relevant engineering concentrations required
• Minimum of three years of experience in process engineering in an industrial environment required
• Computer skills; including CAD (prefer Solid Works) is required
• Experience with P&IDs, PFDs
• Strong continuous process improvement skills
• Time management and organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a manufacturing environment

Work Environment:

This individual works in a multi-level industrial environment requiring work in high precautious places via ladders and steps inside and outside the plant in all types of weather conditions. This individual can be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and some hazardous chemicals. The plant utilizes high levels of electricity and individuals have to be safety minded in all activities. The work environment is dusty.

Moderate - Industrial noise levels characteristic of moving mechanical equipment
