Leads site Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) program. Serves an essential role in leading, partnering and supporting business driven technical, cultural, and strategic initiatives in alignment with the Global Supply Chain operating plan.
This role will also provide coaching and oversight to team members to fulfill their day-to-day responsibilities and manage their overall development by arranging training and development programs.
Additional responsibilities include: complying with regulations and Pfizer EHS standards, setting local EHS goals, management of and self-audit of local EHS program, overseeing the site Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) certification program, managing fire/loss prevention programs, and managing the site’s Waste Disposal program.
The successful candidate is also accountable for the professional growth and development of direct reports.
The major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Manage the performance of direct reports, contractors and influence Sub Operating units through goal setting, ongoing assessment and coaching.
Support and engage in the development of talent and capabilities of team members, including interns and rotational colleagues, for future success
Develop, implement, and communicate policies, procedures and standards while ensuring conformance with regulatory requirements, corporate policies and organizational objectives.
Manages EHS incident investigation process and drive root cause analysis completion..
Compile, monitor, analyze and respond to leading and lagging performance indicators to ensure controls are maintained effectively; identify and implement EHS continuous improvement initiatives.
Provide leadership to ensure that the highest standard of EHS performance is achieved and sustained. This involves establishing a sufficient number of highly-skilled, trained and qualified EHS staff, site safety team, etc.; providing the tools, facilities, and environment needed for success; implementing efficient processes; and providing appropriate oversight
Promote a culture in which Compliance/EHS partners with other groups (operations, Quality, etc.) to identify and resolve conditions that could negatively impact EHS.
Develop, implement, and manage site EHS policies and procedures designed to ensure compliance related to EHS (OSHA, EPA, Fire Code, etc.) and local regulations.
Effectively manage and maintain EHS documentation (Written Programs, Job Safety Analysis, Risk Assessments, Change Management, Action Item Tracking, etc.). Creates the right team to drive these processes.
Project management and other duties as assigned by Site Leader and/or GSC EHS.
Routinely interacts with colleagues and contractors; participates in internal inspections, GEMBA walks, attends/participates in work-group level meetings, seeks/promotes feedback regarding EHS perceptions and performance, etc.
Ensures EHS training is current, effective, and is conducted as outlined in EHS training matrix.
Adhere to all cGMP, FDA guidelines/laws and corporate expectations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicant must have a High School Diploma (or Equivalent) and 10 years of relevant experience.
OR an Associate's degree with 8 years of experience.
OR a Bachelor's with at least 5 years of experience.
OR Master's Degree with more than 3 years of experience.
OR a PhD with 0 years of experience.
5 years progressive experience in EHS.
Strong understanding of all applicable local, state and federal regulations and ability to research, interpret and implement unfamiliar regulations.
EHS professional certifications and/or training (i.e.: ASP/CSP, Ergonomics, Hazardous Waste (CHMM), Fall Protection, Fork Truck Trainer, Emergency Coordinator/Commander, Fire/Loss Prevention, etc.) is a plus.
Dangerous Goods certification and/or training is a plus.
Experience with basic Industrial Hygiene activities, including hearing protection and mitigation of chemical exposure. Work with inert gasses/asphyxiants (N2, CO2, etc.) is a plus.
Administrative experience, organizational ability, supervisory skills. Proficient in report writing.
Motivated individual with strong self-directed capabilities as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to function in an environment of constant change and competing priorities.
Knowledge of Operational Excellence methodologies and tools. Lean / Six Sigma certified are a plus.
Logistics experience preferred.
Pharmaceutical experience a plus.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Position requires on-call availability to address support functions for the site.
Some lifting of up to 40 lbs. may be required on occasion.
Physically able to walk 450,000 sq.ft facility and exterior of building.
Ability to climb a fixed ladder to access facility roof.
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
Overtime hours are required as needed.
Position requires on-call availability to address support functions for the site.
This includes evenings and weekends on a routine basis.
Travel for meetings and training as required.
